The Most Sacred Navarathri Festival starts on Tuesday, September 30th and ends with the Most Auspicious Vijaya Dasami on Thursday, October 9th.

Worship of the Universal Mother or Shakthi is widely prevalent in all parts of our Country. The Vedas and the Puranas extol Her beauty, brilliance, prowess and greatness. Whatever mode adopted, praising Her beauty and charm and adoring Her valour is considered a sacred and meritorious duty, especially during Navaratri. We get extensive glimpses of the greatness of the Divine Mother in Devi Bhagavata Purana written by the Divine Guuru Veda Vyasa. Similarly, the Devi Mahatmyam in the Markandeya Purana extols Her greatness.

The sacred text that is most important and in the worship of Durga, especially during Dasara is called Sri Devi Mahatmyam. It covers 13 chapters of the Markandeya Purana containing 700 verses, Saptasati and is narrated by sage Markandeya to Kroshtuki. There are three charitas or stories of Devi contained in these 700 verses. The three charitas of the Goddess in the Devi Mahatmyam are indeed, illustrations of the glory of the three outstanding personalities and aspects of the Mother,-Maha Kali, Maha lakshmi, Maha Saraswati.
