Guest guest
DearSaibandhu, There are two types of Fasting. The commonly understood fasting is to abstain from intake of food which is healthy for the natural digestive system of the body which otherwise most often fails due to overloading the system by overeating habits. Abstaining from eating renders the Digestive System healthy as it gets periodical rest. This improves the health of the body resulting in better co-ordination between body, mind and intellect ensuring concentration in the spiritual discipline. But the result obtained is only average. However, the other important and sure resultfetching fasting is to abstain from intake of food to the pancha-indriyas and the food is kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada and matsarya. These foods are to be shunned to our senses during fasting by adopting only sacred thoughts instead. This type of fasting is greatly beneficial to our spiritual growth and the result will be outstanding. All great spiritual gurus and our BELOVED BHAGHAVAN emphasis on this type of fasting. Regarding the time of chanting of mantras, worshipping and meditating--same can be done anytime. But one gets the best concentration during morning hours after a good sleep, hence mornig hours preferred during initial stage of spiritual discipline, and after one becomes adept in spirituality, any time can be utilised for chanting mantras, worshipping or meditation or any type of spiitual sadhana. your's Saibandhu, Ranganatha Rao On Tue, Jul 15, 2008 at 7:41 PM, savita sachin <savitasachin wrote: Dear sister, can i pls ask you , why is it so that we have to start those mantras at six in the morning. my doubt is isn't it true that all the timings r good, of course for prayers early morning is good i know. but pls i will be thnkful to you if you can tell me is there any specific reason behind the time or , dear sister other than these mantras do we have to fast all day, n is it true that if we fast very strictly like if we dont take water also, god will look at us. the fasting thing i wnt to know do we have to fast on guru poornima day n eeven on sankasht chaturthi if we fast, it has to be very strict, please let me know more on this. i will be thnkful to you if you can tell me on this. jai sai ram, god bless all
Guest guest
Dear brothers/sisters SAIRAM! Regarding chanting of any manthras or Dhyanam or any other good practices it is better to do between 4am to 6am daily. Because that time is called Brahma muhurtham and our swamy also use to say this to do omkara/suprapadham/Dhyan etc as given in the Nine codes of conduct. That time is more auspicious and holy time and also practically less disturbance or no disturbance will be there from worldly matters. Secondly Fasting is not amandatory one for any thing and everything. If you do fasting brfore any puja you will not be effected by the things you take inside or drink some thing. Before any sacret act like puja,or ceremoney we should concentrate on the particular puja or forefathers in the case of ceremoney. If you take tiffin/meals before any act, you willbe affected by the tamasic/rajasic quality of the food/drink you take and you can not concentrate and do sincere puja/ceremoney. This is the reason our ancesstors made an unwritten rule to keep fasting. Again it is up to any individual only. If you hjave continuous thinking concentration on the puja/ceremoney you may not feel hungry and to take any thing. You can do a better concentration on that if you do fasting. But if you feel thirsty you can take water or coffee/tea etc to a smal measure. That is all. This is my opinion regarding fasting and chanting manthras at early morning. Guest guest
Sairam Sir, A strange train of thoughts occupies my mind now. While I am not knowledgeable, I humbly request you to ponder over this. Swamy says CHANGE OF ACTIVITY IS REST - after a tough day at the office, when one comes home, a a relaxation procedure (time bound - before attending to other homely work) a bath and change to fresh clothes and a study of some favourite chant like vishnu sahasranama, rudram etc., may totally relax the brain by drawing away blood from the congested areas of the brain to other areas, thereby relaxing the brain and leading to a beautiful sleep/rest, after a light food intake. If, it is possible to avoid media like TV etc., it will be all the more better.
