Guest guest
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Sai, Baba´s lilas are often a very powerful and sweet way of inspiration in our path, often a fiery inspiration that changes everything. I would like to encourage each one of you to share your favourite Lila, something that you have experiences personally or that you have heard first hand from somebody close to you that has made an impact. I would start myself with my own favorite one, which did not happen to me but I heard from the protagonist. I come from Venezuela, a South American country where nowadays there are a fair amount of devotees scattered here and there. When I first heard of Baba in the 80´s, it was from a close friend that mentioned woman healer he knew who lived in a pretty remote part of the country in the Andes, and was in contact with Sai Baba. Her story is amazing and I eventually went to visit her and heard it from her own mouth. She lives in a simple peasant’s house in the skirts of the Andes, in a little town called Lagunillas. You can see that she herself is a woman of the people, with no formal instruction and a simple heart. Bear in mind that at the time that this happened , I think in the late 70’s, her region was so remote that even things that happened in the capital of the country, Caracas, were not well known. Imagine how foreign an unlikely even the idea of India was to the this lady. I am going to transcribe what she told me in that meeting. ´¨´One day I was alone in the house, sitting on my bed sewing. My husband was off to some errand so I had locked the main door. I was alone with my thoughts when suddenly I notice that a strange man dressed in orange was in the room, pacing around my bed smiling and making some gestures with his hand. I was horrified, sure that it was a thief and wanted to scream ´Thief, thief´ but no words would come out of my mouth. He didn´t say anything, just smiled and left walking out the bedroom. When I finally could get on my feet I ran out and was puzzled to find the main door securely locked as I had locked it earlier. How had he come in ?? I was totally puzzled . Anyway, I went out the street finally screaming ´a thief, a thief´ . All the neighbors came but none seemed to have seen any body strange around. I was very puzzled about the whole unexplainable event, after all, he hadn´t taken anything either. Some months later my husband´s wife, who had been to the Capital, came in with a small photo. Look here, Maria, she said, I think the thief that came to your house was a God of Sabana Grande ( Sabana Grande is the name of a downtown area in Caracas where the Sai Baba centre was. It’s like somebody from rural India saying, after visiting Delhi :´´ this must be a Khan Market god). Look at this photo - she said- is like the man you described. Yes, yes , I said this is my thief, it´s him! And after little by little I learned who he really was¨´¨´ Marie Lumiere ( a name Baba gave her later), told me how after that Baba would come to her as a voice telling her how to heal and people, and that often materialized objects appeared in her house, which was by when I saw her, a Sai centre. This little lost town of the Venezuelan Andes is now full of Sai devotees. The story delighted me, and brought with force the reality of Baba being able to manifest anywhere, even in a little remote town in South America, where nobody could even imagine his existence. I hope you enjoyed it too, and that you will feel inspired to share your favorite Lilas of the Lord, so we can share in the wonder and delight of his manifestations of love.
