SairamAs some of you are aware, the late Dr. S. Bhagawantam who was once Scientific Advisor to The Government of India, was later Bhagawan's translator whenever He gave discourses at Prashanthi Nilayam some years back. Below please find a link in blue letters (in case you are new to all this....) to click on for a very short but lovely interview with him. We are fortunate to have such a memoire. His personality is perfectly reflected in this little video, a sort of miracle in itself:: to be able to hear him express so much in just a few seconds, in his own special way !!The

first time I went to

Prashanthi Nilayam to be

near Bhagawan was Dasera

1978. Dr. Bhagawantam was there at that time. He was

a darling, with an unrufflable personality that spanned spirituality and science without missing a beat, a very Indian

sort of Indian !! It was impossible not to love him, especially since he was clearly such a devotee. such a humble and kind man, with something else I just can't define . maybe someone else can ? His attitude towards Bhagawan was touching. As a newcomer, I could sense that from his close association with Bhagawan, he had such respect for Him that for me it made it natural to feel that way, too. It made a deep impression on me. He never over-stepped the line between Bhagawan and himself, nor did he become overly familiar or personal, a mark of a true gentleman. On the other hand, he never belittled himself in front of Bhagawan or made fun of himself, or put himself down. There was no artificial distance between them. Now that I think back, I am guessing that Bhagawan was grateful for that. After all, no one

wants to dwell in Kailasa all by Himself !! And as Bhagawan once said, "All I want is your love!" ... a perfectly reasonable request, don't you think ?? I find it

comforting to hear his voice again, to

hear his words, illustrating as they do in very short order - to say the least !! - a revelation of the Indian attitude towards

spirituality, a natural acceptance and understanding of it all, an easy hand with defining

its different levels, and a special and quite erudite and level-headed understanding of Bhagawan's placement in the scheme of things. To me, it is so nice to hear him speak about Bhagawan. Dr. Bhagawantam kept a very low profile, therefore I had never heard anything he said about Bhagawan before finding this video. However, his attitude was perfectly visible when you saw him with Bhagawan in the great, beautiful Poornachandra during discourses: in the easy play, the jocularity, the affection between the two of them - positioned as they are at such different places in the spectrum of divine existence - especially when he had not quite got right a fine point Bhagawan was making, and then Bhagawan would clarify it for him in Telugu, to repeat it again in English for the devotees present. The air became especially merry when it had to be done

twice.....and even more so when Bhagawan gave up before the third time and said it for us Himself in

English !!I miss his presence very much. I am sure I am not the

only one who does so. However, considering the circumstances of his life, I am thinking that he is perfectly fine, wherever he is in this lovely universe. A Scientist's Explanation on Swami

lead men and women towards God? Swami

explains it to us in clear terms today."I do know I am probably leaping over hedges and fording streams .... what my brother calls skid-thinking !! .... but somehow it makes me think of Dr. Bhagawantam.....and although he was not in this sort of position, formally, he did have special qualities that for me served as auxiliaries for my understanding Bhagawan ....so I cannot leave him out of my observations here, which I suppose - now that I have read Sai Inspires for today - are partly about how people - and specifically Dr. Bhagawantam - lead others to GodSince it is not possible for me to copy today's page, nor to access it anywhere else that I can find, here is the quote for the day - from Bhagawan's "Sandeha NavariniThey (great people) will have no craving for wealth. disciples from approaching them and will not prohibit anyone from approaching them. They will look upon all with equal love. They will not

relish the defamation of others. They will not be vengeful against those who point our to them their own mistakes and wrongs. They will always spread Truth, Right Action, Peace and Love. Sai Ram!

By the time I went to school at Parthi, it was Sri Kasturi's turn to translate Swami's discourses. I had heard about Dr. Bhagavantham from my grandfather, but he had already left Swami's orbit, and I had never seen him since, but was always curiousn about him. Thank you for this wonderful little find - it does give me a tiny little glimpse into what he was like, how he spoke, what he thought of Swami! And thank you too, for sharing your own thoughts so generously :)
