Discussion about a doubt from Brother Soumendra

Sai Ram,

It is true as has been mentioned by Swami and several saints

that our present birth is a result of the karmas in the previous births. When

an Atma enters a new body (rebirth) the Atma forgets all the past births,

relations, karmas etc. of those previous births (unless they attain a yogic status when they can recall their previous

lives as well as the previous lives of others at will). Hence the

individual born again will have to redo his cycle of karma, which will add to

the balance of his previous ones. It is like going on adding to a donation box.

Only when the box is opened will the contents be revealed. The box is opened

each time we die.

 

The individual born in a rich influential family has to set

his own course in life and determine his own priorities once again. This is to minimize

the confusion that could arise if he were to remember his past births in terms

of love, hatred, revenge, relationships etc. the memories of the past birth are

like a matchbox. Unless one knows how, when and where to use it, he could end

up burning himself, his household or public property. We are like that

individual who doesnot know what to do with a matchbox.

 

Saints and Avataars on the other hand know the purpose of

the matchbox and will use it to burn off the evil only (ego, negativism etc.).

Sri Rama knew of Ahalya. Sai Baba recalled that a snake trying to eat up a frog

were actually brothers in a previous life. Swami tells us that Sai Geeta will

be born for the first time as a human. Krishna

knew the twin trees were Gandharvas waiting for liberation. Innumerable are

such incidents.

 

Hence for our own sakes we donot remember our previous births.

There is enough confusion and chaos as it is without our past memories being

handed over to us. Thankfully God has built a protective fence at the edge of

the mountain, lest we topple over and fall.

 

In this birth we will putting some more karmas into the

treasure or donation box of ours. People born in influential families could be

like the lily or lotus in a dirty pond. It is up to them whether they want to

grow up to a level that the dirt slips off them or whether they want to root

themselves deeply into the dirty soil. The greatest gift of being born a human

as Swami often reiterates as have several noble souls in the past, is our

intellect- the power to reason and think. The nuclear reaction principle can be

used to generate energy (welfare of the world) as well as to destroy the world.

It is the way the discriminating decision is made that changes the world.

 

Another thing I wish to mention to devotees who have a doubt

as to why Swami gives interviews to leaders and VIPs is that Swami Himself

explained this once to a close devotee. He said that these people will lead a

lot of others. Hence it was important that they are guided first so that they

can be good examples in their own organization. It is like the bank manager

warning you against drawing any more money from your bank account as the funds

are dwindling slowly (due to evil deeds). That gives you a sufficient warning

that you must find ways to add to the account (by doing good things)
