Guest guest
Aum Sri Sai Ram, A drive to enlist potential bone marrow donors is being held at Hayes Community Campus tomorrow, Sunday 17th May 2009 from 11am to 3pm. The Anthony Nolan Trust ( www.anthonynolan.org.uk) have kindly arranged to attend to get more people on to their donor register. This is being done alongside a Walk-in Health Awareness Clinic organised by Region 2 of Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation UK. We do need as many people (aged 18 to 40 and in good health) as possible to volunteer to put themselves on the Anthony Nolan Donor Database, which is the largest of its kind in the world. Asian and minority groups in particular are under represented on the database so, if you know anyone who can be in the area and help, please ask them to consider this important seva. Why do it? Life threatening blood disorders such as leukaemia can be diagnosed in anyone and the best known method of alleviating such illness is to introduce donor bone marrow to the patient's system. This has to be an exact match which is likely to come from the same ethnic grouping. What tends to happen is that when someone is diagnosed with the disease, a desperate search starts up to find a suitable match. This results in a lot of failure and a sad loss of life which can possibly be saved through a procedure which involves renewable body resource. Getting information on to a register database can possibly help identify a matching donor - who would be then approached for further help. IT could be the biggest service you can offer - that of saving a life! What is needed? Your presence at the clinic. A simple form needs to be filled with contact details and a small sample of blood (about 2 tablespoons full) is taken for rigorous laboratory testing and tissue typing. Once all information is available, the entry on the database is made available for any need arising across the world and, if ever needed, a potential donor is approached for help. The vast majority of the people on the register never come across this privilege but do have the satisfaction o knowing they stepped up to the mark when needed. Where do we go this time? Uxbridge College, Hayes Community Campus, Coldharbour Lane, Hayes UB3 3BB Copies of flyers can be downloaded from: www.fwhac.saiservice.net/hayes2009 Please also visit the Free Walk-in Health Awareness Clinic - which is open to all ages and includes eye, dental, Body Mass Index, blood pressure and blood sugar level checks along with consultations with qualified medical professionals all offering their services to Sai on the day.
