THE WORLD A FAIR

When I was 5 –

I went to a fair

My eyes open wide in wonder

My nose smelling every sweet they sold

My walk a skip

My voice a squeak

My money not enough to buy every toy in every stall

When it was 5 –

It was time to go home

Dusty and dirty

Tired and exhausted

Belly aching and eyes closing

Feet dragging and shoulders sagging

Didn’t want to walk anymore, talk anymore

Sing anymore, smile anymore

All I wanted was to go home,

Lay my head in my mother’s lap

And sleep ----------------------

When I am 35 –

I have walked through life,

Played with all the toys,

Watched all the wonders,

Tried every treat,

Tasted every sweet,

Laughed, gambled, cheated, danced,

Sang, lied, sinned, ate,

Wasted, wanted, wailed, derailed,

Blundered, wandered, worried, wished,

Hoped, sighed, longed, craved,

But now – enough!

I want to come home

To the peace and quiet

To the cozy embrace of my mother Sai

To the love of a thousand mothers

I just want to close my eyes and sleep.

Sai Ram and Love.
