AUM SAI RAM

The worship of the Divine Mother into sets of three days for Navaratri has a very profound and sublime meaning for the spiritual aspirant.

It epitomises the stages of the evolution of man from the stage of individual life to the stage of Oneness with God. The observance of the rituals associated with

Navaratri is meant to show to him the course which his spiritual sadhana should take.

The purpose of our existence is to recognise our Oneness with God. It is to grow into the image of the Divine, to acquire spotless purity and highest perfection.

As an initial step, therefore, the Divine Mother is worshipped for the first three nights as Doorga Maa, the destroyer of all the impurities and demoniac elements which has come to cling to man since his birth in the human body. After the process of purge and deep cleansing, he has to develop virtues and divine qualities with determination and arduous struggle by worshipping the Mother as Luxmi Mata, the Goddess of spiritual purity, spiritual beauty and spiritual wealth. The Divine Mother is, therefore, worshipped as Luxmi Mata

during the second set of three days.

Once the aspirant has developed pure and divine qualities, he becomes competent to acquire higher wisdom and to receive divine knowledge. At this stage, comes the devout worship of Mother Saraswathee who is divine knowledge, wisdom and spiritual attainment personified.

The tenth day, Vijaya Dasami, marks the triumphant victory of the soul in having attained liberation through the acquisition of Divine Knowledge by the Grace of the Divine Mother. The soul has become One with God. The stage of Satchidananda Brahman has been reached. The day ultimately marks the victory of the aspirant who has successfully gone through the three stages of darkness to Light.
