AUM SAI RAM

One hundred and eight 'gopikas'(milkmaids), as

told by our holy scriptures, danced to the mesmerist tune of Lord Krsna's flute.

The oft posed question is - why 108 milkmaids? Why not one?

The answer lies in the description of the

'milkmaids' as given by Bhagawan Baba.

Baba says 'The milkmaids are ideal examples for

those living in the Kaliyuga. They had complete faith in Lord Krsna. They had

unwavering belief in His Divinity. Their devotion was pure, selfless and

sacred. We may think that the play of Krsna and the milkmaids was a game

involving human enjoyment but this was not so. Indeed this is symbolic of the

sacred union between the individual self (the milkmaid) and Over-self (Lord

Krsna). The milkmaids were formless in the aspect of divinity. Their heart was

the temple of the Lord. Their thoughts were sacred streams. The reason for this

is that in their previous births, in the Krita Yuga, they were sages. Then,

they only had the 'darshan' of the Lord. They prayed to have conversation with

the Lord. Hence, in the Treta Yuga, they became the monkeys and were able to

converse with Lord Rama. In the Dwarpa Yuga, the same sages/ monkeys became the

'gopikas' and they danced to the captivating music of the flute player, Murali

Krsna'.

Baba adds that 'the milkmaids are the three

forms of qualities, namely, dull, passionate and pure. Those who have the dull

quality will get only the darshan of the Lord. Those who are passionate will

have conversation with Him plus darshan. Those who have pure qualities will not

only have darshan and conversation but will also have touch.'
