Guest guest
Orissa politicians to seek blessings of Sathya Sai By Sulochana Das Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: With the chances of a mid-term poll next year appearing bright, Orissa politicians belonging to both the ruling parties seem to have started tilting towards religious Gurus before they go from door to door to woo the voters. A group of leaders, including three Ministers belonging to the Biju Janata Dal, left for Prasanthi Nilayam in Anantapur district of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning to seek the blessings of Sathya Sai Baba. Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai, Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro, Steel and Mines Minister Padmanabha Behera and others left for Hyderabad by a Deccan Air flight. From Hyderabad , these leaders would to Puttaparthi by road. As per schedule, the leaders would meet Sathya Sai Baba and seek his blessings on Tuesday morning. But you cannot exactly claim that the leaders have gone to seek the blessings of Sathyasai Baba to brighten the electoral prospects of their party. They are armed with an official letter from none other than Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, requesting the Baba to set up a state-of-the-art hospital in the State. In the letter that he wrote on Saturday, Patnaik has promised to extend government help including allotment of 100 acres of land for establishing the hospital, highly placed sources said. A few more Ministers belonging to the BJD, including Information and Public Relations Minister Debasis Nayak, would also reach Prasanthi Nilayam by Tuesday morning. That's not all. Three Ministers of the State belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party – Industry Minister Biswabhushan Harichandan, Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal and Higher Education Minister Samir Dey – are also scheduled to meet Sathya Sai Baba on Tuesday. If sources are to be believed, several legislators of the two ruling parties were also likely to reach Puttaparthi by Tuesday morning. Interestingly, many of these politicians are also taking their family members with them. The entire arrangement appears quite unusual and has raised many queries. Why are so many Ministers going to approach the Baba just to hand over an official letter from the Chief Minister? Is this for the State's interest or political gains? No official confirmation was immediately available whether the Ministers would bear the expenses of their travel themselves or it would be reimbursed by the government.
