Guest guest
Unexplained Mysteries Prahlad Jani - No Food 65 Years Prahlad Jani - Unexplained Mysteries. No Food or Fluids for 65 Years " I feel no need for food and water, " states Prahladbhai Jani, a seventy-six year old Indian ascetic who lives in a cave near the Ambaji temple in the state of Gujarat. Mr. Jani claims that he has not had food or fluids to drink for the last sixty-five years. At the age of seven years he left home in search of spiritual unfoldment. Jani states that at the age of eleven years he was blessed by a goddess. He claims that since that blessing he has gained his sustenance from nectar that filters down through a hole in his palate, and has not passed urine or stools since then. Mr. Jani explained, " I get the elixir of life from the hole in my palate, which enables me to go without food and water. " Almost daily Mr. Jani enters a state of Samadhi characterized by extreme bliss and enormous light and strength. He says that he has never experienced medical problems. He says that he did not speak for a period of forty-five years. In November 2003, after over a year of coaxing, Prahlad Jani was finally persuaded to participate in a scientific research study. A medical research team of twenty-one specialists, headed by Dr. Sudhir V. Shah, had Mr. Jani under twenty-four hours of observation for ten days at the Sterling Hospital in Ahmedabad. The team's research expertise included cardiology, neurology, urology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, renal function, pulmonary function, ENT analysis, psychiatry, general medicine, and other specialities. A series of investigations were done on Mr. Jani in each of these areas according to a pre-determined protocol, and additional tests were carried out as per suggestions of the team. At the conclusion of their intensive investigations the team's doctors were left with an unexplained mystery, unable to disprove Mr. Jani's claims. Mr. Jani was initially kept in ICU for the first twenty-four hours. For the next nine days he was kept in a specially prepared room with a sealed-off toilet and a glass door. The room was also equipped with video surveillance to continuously monitor Mr. Jani. Additionally, staff persons were assigned to stay in the same room with Jani round-the-clock to make sure that he did not eat, drink, or pass urine or stool. To assure researchers of no possible intake of water, Mr. Jani agreed he would not bathe during the medical investigation. Mr. Jani was permitted a small measured quantity of water to use as a mouthwash. He then spat the water into a beaker to verify that none had been drunk. An ultrasound, which was made of Mr. Jani's bladder twice daily, indicated that there was urine accumulation, which subsequently decreased on its own without passing. At the end of the ten days of observation, the team of doctors verified that Prahladbhai Jani had not taken food or drank fluids. (The average person cannot survive without water for more than four days.) The team concluded that Mr. Jani's health had not deteriorated during this study. Also, according to the hospital's deputy superintendent, Dr. Dinesh Desai, " A series of tests conducted on him show his body mechanism is that of a normal person. " Mr. Jani's survival without food or fluids remains one of those unexplained mysteries. The following are excerpts from the research team's concluding report: 1. The protocol was strictly adhered to. 2. Mr. Jani had not passed or dribbled urine during these 10 days. 3. He has not taken anything by mouth or by any other routes not even water for 10 days. 4. All his parameters remained within the range determined by the committee. 5. He has shown evidence of formation of urine, which seems to be reabsorbed from his bladder wall. However, at present the committee does not have any scientific explanation for the same but the help of senior scientists and medical personnel of the country is being taken for the same. We are surprised as to how he has survived despite above particularly without passing urine for 10 days and remaining generally physically fit. However, it should be made very clear that we have confirmed the claim over 10 days only and we as scientists and responsible doctors cannot say anything regarding validity of the claim of his sustaining without food, drinks, urination and excretion of stools over several years. Dr. Sudhir V. Shah (Consultant Neurophysician, Sterling Hospital/Associate professor of neurology at K. M. School of PGMR, Ahmedabad) headed the research panel of doctors who performed this study. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Sudhir V. Shah for providing the Case Summary of this study along with the photos of Mr. Jani. To view the Case Summary of Mr. Jani in its entirety please go to: P. Jani Medical Report. Another similar research study, also headed by Dr. Sudhir V. Shah at Sterling Hospital, was conducted on Hira Ratan Manek. Mr. Manek claimed not to have eaten since 1995. Mr. Manek was kept under scientific observation round-the-clock for 411 continuous days. During this time Mr. Manek subsisted only on boiled water. This study also left researchers baffled. Dr. Sudhir V. Shah kindly provided a copy of his article about this study which was published in Gujarat Medical Journal – March 2001. Miracle Sai Baba - Supernatural Powers Vincent J. Daczynski Chapter 12 (mouseover to enlarge) Sai Baba Materializes Vibhuti in Quantity Many Times the Volume of the Pot From Which It Pours Out No book about amazing supernatural abilities would be complete without including a treatise about Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Man of Miracles. Sai Baba is considered to be Divinity in human form, an incarnation of God, an Avatar. Tens of millions of people from 160 countries have experienced his Divinity. He has performed many supernatural miracles. His supernatural powers defy description. He has raised people from the dead. He resurrected Walter Cowan, who died from a heart attack and was pronounced dead by doctors. As a result of the resurrection Walter’s diabetic condition and diseased kidneys were also cured. A detailed account of this amazing miracle as told by both Sai Baba and Mr. Cowan is reported in Dr. John S. Hislop’s Book, My Baba and I. Sai Baba also resurrected Mr. V. Radhakrishna, who was dead for several days. Rigor mortis had set in. The body had turned blue and had begun to smell in the normal course of decomposition. For details about this resurrection please see: Resurrection. Sai Baba has healed many people; the lame, blind and those suffering from a variety of diseases, both minor and terminal. Also, he always knows peoples’ minds and thoughts. However, Sai Baba is best known for his routine materializations of vibhuti and any objects desired by him. Such supernatural materializations are produced out of the elements by Sai Baba’s will as evidence, not as exhibition of powers, in order to help bring people to faith, devotion, and inquiry and realization of their own reality. Hundreds of thousands of people have witnessed Sai Baba make a gentle wave of his hand and produce vibhuti (a white ash) for them to place on their tongue and forehead. The supernatural curative power of the vibhuti is well-known to devotees. Author Howard Murphet has investigated the supernatural miracles of Sathya Sai Baba for decades. In his book, Man of Miracles, he reports about a materialization of a coin that Sai Baba did for him. “One evening a party of us were sitting on the carpet in his suite; Ramanatha Reddy, the doctor, the young men, Iris and myself where there. Swami asked me the year of my birth, and when I told him, he said that he would get for me an American coin minted there in that same year. He began to circle his down-turned hand in the air in front of us, making perhaps half a dozen small circles, saying the while: “It’s coming now…coming…here it is!” Then he closed his hand and held it before me, smiling as if enjoying my eager expectancy. When the coin dropped from his hand to mine, I noted first that it was heavy and golden. On closer examination I found, to my delight, that it was a genuine milled American ten-dollar coin, with the year of my birth stamped beneath a profile head of the Statue of Liberty. “Born the same year as you,” Swami smiled. What would skeptics say about this, I wondered. Would they suggest that Baba carried around with him a stock of coins so that he would give one to match my year of birth? Such old American coins, now long out of circulation, would not be easy for him to obtain in India through normal channels. Additional accounts of Sai Baba's supernatural powers can be read at: Supernatural Powers. Another remarkable materialization was that of a golden statue of Krishna playing the flute. Please see the following link for photographs and details: Krishna statue. And, another remarkable materialization was of a rare book composed in 1530 A.D. with more details in it about Jesus Christ than the Bible. Please see the following link for photographs and details: Rare book. Sathya Sai Baba with Crucifix He Materialized (Composite Photograph) The most incredible of Sai Baba’s supernatural materializations was of a crucifix he materialized on Mahashivaratri day February, 1973 for his dear devotee Dr. John S. Hislop. This is Dr. Hislop’s account as excerpted from his book, My Baba and I: …The cars halted at the side of the road, and we started to climb down the bank to the sandy river bottom. I was beside Baba. As we passed a bush, Swami broke off two twigs, placed them together and asked me, " What is this, Hislop? " " Well, Swami, it is a cross, " I answered. Baba then closed his fingers over the twigs and directed three somewhat slow breaths into his fist, between thumb and forefinger. Then, he opened his hand to reveal a Christ figure crucified on a cross, and he gave it to me. He said, " This shows Christ as he really was at the time he left his body, not as artists have imagined him or as historians have told about him. His stomach is pulled in and his ribs are all showing. He had had no food for eight days.” I looked at the crucifix, but found no words. Then Baba commented, “The cross is wood from the actual cross on which Christ was crucified. To find some of the wood after two thousand years took a little time! The image is of Christ after he died. It is a dead face.” I noticed something odd and asked, " Swami, what is that hole at the top of the cross? " Baba replied that the cross was originally hung from a standard. … The cross is so small that the details on the figure of Christ escape the eye. A friend, Walter Wolfe, came down to our home and took some color photographs of the crucifix. The overall length of the Christ figure is only one inch, and Walter was to make some enlargements to bring out the details… A few weeks later, Walter and his wife returned with color enlargements of the cross… The details revealed by the photographic enlargements were so extraordinary that all persons present were concentrating on this amazing vision of Christ… On this afternoon, the sky along the Mexican coast was clear and peaceful. But suddenly, without any warning, there was a loud crash of thunder and as our eyes turned to the windows, lightening flashed from a dark cloud where a moment before there had been only clear sky. A violent wind crashed through the house, causing windows and doors to open and shut with such a force that glass was in danger of shattering. The curtains were flying in all directions. We were much startled by this turn of events, but my wife at once, said, “It’s 5 p.m., the same time Christ died on the cross, and what is now happening is described in the Bible.” She later brought a Bible and we looked until we found the pertinent paragraph, which said that at the moment Christ gave up His life, a violent storm arose with lightning and thunder, and winds rent the curtains of the temple… We and our friends concluded that the recapitulation of an event which had taken place some 2,000 years ago upon the crucifixion of Christ, implied a great power connected in some way with that small cross and Christ figure materialized by Baba… It might be thought that the story of the cross was now complete, but there is still a sequel. In 1975, I made an unannounced trip to India to consult with Baba about arrangements for a visit to America that we hoped he would undertake. Swami had not been informed of my visit and was away on tour when I arrived. On that day he was having lunch with a few senior devotees and he said, “Hislop arrived in Bangalore just now and is waiting.” One of the men at the table (who later told me of the scene) remarked, “You made a crucifix for him.” Baba replied, “Yes, I made it for him. And when I went to look for the wood, every particle of the cross had disintegrated and had returned to the elements. I reached out to the elements and reconstituted sufficient material for a small cross. Very seldom does Swami interfere with Nature, but occasionally, for a devotee, it will be done.” Sri Sathya Sai Baba was born with Godly superhuman powers on November 23, 1926, in the small South Indian village of Puttaparthi. As a young boy Sathya fascinated his playmates by materializing candy and gifts from an empty bag. When he was fourteen years old Sathya informed his family that he was the reincarnation of a holy man named Sai Baba of Shirdi, and that henceforth he would be known as Sai Baba and that his mission was to bring about the spiritual regeneration of humanity by demonstrating and teaching the highest principles of truth, righteous conduct, peace, and divine love. More recently, Sai Baba has said that he would reincarnate a third time, as Prema Sai. For information about this prediction please see: Prema Sai. " I have come to light the lamp of Love in your hearts, to see that it shines day by day with added luster. I have not come on any mission or publicity for any sect or creed or cause nor have I come to collect followers for any doctrine. I have no plans to attract disciples or devotees into my fold or any fold. I have come to tell you of the Universal, Unitary Faith, this Path of Love, this Duty of Love, this Obligation to Love.
