Here is one such incident which I experienced at Puttaparthi during my college time. One day, Mr. Ramakrishnan who used to give us the monthly ration, and other household items, had come home and informed me about their impending trip to Puttaparthi and requested me to follow them as they have arranged one bus carrying all devotees from Trivandrum to Puttaparthi to meet SAI BABA and also take part in the Bajans there. There was one Mrs. Saraswathi Amma, whom I met through Mr. Ramakrishnan in the group. She gave me a book on Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I really liked her as she was soft spoken. She had arranged for the stay at Puttaparthi. Even though I was having the first knowledge of Sri Sathya Sai Baba only then, as I was more inquisitive to know more about HIM, I readily agreed to leave along with them to attend the Bhajans . You should know that I was really not knowing anything other than what he was telling me about HIM. I read the book and I became more eager to meet HIM in person at the closest distance possible. I had only one prayer in my mind all through our journey, that I should be able to see HIM at the closest range as possible. This and nothing else was in mind. We started from Trivandrum in the bus and we sang the songs from several books and also followed some leaders all the way along. It was quite a good experience for me as I was going for the trip for the first time. We reached Puttaparthi safely. We got down from the bus and we had reached the entrance to Bhavan's abode. We were told that we will have some food after having bath. And after bath in the early morning at 4 'O clock, we will go for the Bhajans. Already we were tired and hence this decision. Everyone agreed and we started batch by batch to the rooms arranged. I had reached here for the First time with the sole intention of meeting Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba at the closest range as possible and I was to be very frank critical in my outlook and dindn't have any questions or arrange for personal meetings. I wanted to know more about the place and HIS Bhajans etc. You won't believe me if I say as I was entering the ARCH, it could be described as Heaven in Earth. I was moved by the sight I saw inside the Arch and I took time to move in. I had a different make of mind after I had entered the area. Why ? you may ask! It is quite natural. But here what I saw was quite different from all the other places I have gone. There were WHITE dress clad Sai Baba devoties going around the whole area looking after the affairs of the devoties who are pouring in. What surprised me was that there was complete silence all over and all of the people - devoties or others who have arrived to see Baba including foreigners kept the silence. There were student groups - boys and girls - they too in white dress - going about attending to the old and sick and also daily routines like cleaning the entire premises, collecting the rubbish and putting them in the respective places. They are the same devoties and students attending to the garden, clipping them, watering them, manuring them. This goes on , I was told day after day, irrespective of class, creed or religion. All are with reverence greet each other " OM SAI RAM " . This itself proved a difference from the outer world we normally see everyday. I was moved by this. We had reached our respective rooms and go for bath one by one and have food and go to bed because of the tiring trip we had. Next day morning everyone got up early by 3- 3.30 and got ready to have bath, have tea and go the Bhajan Hall. I reached the hall by 4-4.15 and I was surprised to see that the hall was overflowing with people. We were told to sit wherever you get space to sit. I had come to see HIM and I was told HE will come only by 7-7.30 Am. I talked to the devoties around very mildly when a break comes. I came to know that HE will come to the Dias and from there HE will walk down the steps, pass the front row space from one end to the other and then walk through the centre path way upto the back of the auditorium. HE will be walking so slowly everyone can have a good vision of HIM. I was happy that HE will pass by the centre pathway which means I can see HIM about 15 to 20 feet distance. I prayed that I am happy to see HIM atleast at that distance as I had not seen HIM at all. I was almost outside the auditorium. But I found a place near a pillar and I was happy as I could see HIM right from the time HE comes to the dias till HE goes back to the dias and start the Bharjans. We were waiting impatiently for HIS arrival but all through we were singing the Bhajans. It was a very very conforting site and the Bhajans pouring in from the thousands seated there rendered a peaceful atmosphere. Atlast the time was nearing for HIS arrival and all the devoties were anxiously waiting for seeing HIM. There! He has come. Yes! HE spread the joy among all of us with HIS captivating smile and movement of HIS arms blessing everyone. Not one person, but all. HE stood for some time in the dias and then moved towards the right end of the dias , came down the steps. HE moved slowly from the end of the front path to the other end of the front pah slowly blessing each and everyone in the vicinity. All had been praying till then and now we all waited for HIS blessings. I had closed my eyes and I thanked HIM for having given the only wish to see HIM. I had no other wish as I told earlier. He had already reached the other end and HE is now moving towards the centre pathway. HE was walking past the area where I was seated, [ that was the closest I can see HIM ] I thanked HIM for having given my wish to see HIM. I closed my eyes and prayed for welfare of all. I opened my eyes and searched for HIM to find HIM at the back end and was moving to the front. I prayed that YOU have given me one more close vision. As I was seated near the pillar, I judged the time HE will reach the dias to start the Bhajans. I couldn't see HIM in the dias. I retraced the path and to my surprise, I found HIM in the centre pathway straight against where I was sitting. I closed my eyes and prayed that YOU have given me the best darshan I could have from where I am seated. I thanked HIM for the same. After some time I opened my eyes to see HIM, waving HIS hands as if requesting them to move to give way for HIM to walk. The devoties had moved to both sides and I could see HIM moving straight through the path so formed and was coming nearer. I thanked HIM again for the good darshan given as I wanted. Do you know what happened? I had kept my eyes closed and later I felt someone near me. I slowly opened my eyes and I found HIS TOES right in front where I was seated. I had prayed for the best darshan HE could give me, the poor soul. I had moved my head slowly upwards and there was complete silence all over. I saw HIM in HIS Saffron flowing attire standing right in front of me with HIS HAND right on top of my head with a speacial smile on HIS face as if to say " I have given you what you came for, istn't it! Hope you are satisfied. " Yes. HE has beaten me. I wanted to see HIM at the closest range as possible. Yes. HE has given me the best darshan anyone could have that day. HE stood there right in front for a few minutes and then walked back to the dias. Hsat there and started the Bhajans. It is the best momement I ever had in my life. HE gave what I had prayed for. I am now a SAI BABA Devotee. " You do the best and leave the rest to GOD " is what I had learnt from my childhood. It was an exciting experience and even now I pray to GOD to bless us and look after us, as we are deemed to by grace of GOD. Hope you also would have experienced such wonderful episodes in your lives. With love and affectionate regards to one and all , OM SAI RAM ravi sankar nath. s chennai /message/9209 --- End forwarded message ---
