The Ultimate Experience of Sri Sathya Sai World Youth Conference

Fire In Your Heart

One of the things I would cherish fondly for my life is being part of the Sri Sathya Sai International Youth Choir. It was fun; we had singers, instrumentalists from various parts of the world: Japan, Australia, Cyprus, El Salvador, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Kuwait, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, Norway, Slovenia, Canada, Argentina, USA etc. Ms. Alma Badings, a veteran musician and violinist from Netherlands was our conductor. Though the members were from very diverse musical and cultural backgrounds,

we got along perfectly well, the reason being the common thread of

Swami. He is the One God, One Love in all our hearts. Even before the World Youth Conference started, Swami being the most compassionate God gave us permission to perform before Him, but being the smartest God too, He did not tell us when we were to perform ;) We gave our best, practiced for about 15 days starting from 16th of July, praying everyday to allow us to sing to Him. We did receive the " Yes " from the Lord Sathya Sai NaadaBrahma, the Very Incarnation of Music, but only at 11 AM on the day of Gurupoornima; and we were to sing the same evening!!

Lesson here: It might all look pitch dark and totally hopeless ahead. But, you never know when Sai would shower all His Love and Grace and fill it with all light and smiles. Be ready for the downpour anytime!

Basically I want to share one of the songs that we sang in this context. We were sent a list of songs to be practiced at home, before we arrived in Prasanthi and this song titled " Fire In Your Heart

" is the only one which I never practiced until I met the choir! The reason was that we did not have the audio of it to hear and practice, and added to that, I downloaded only the notes of the bass part. Without the remaining parts, the bass roused little interest in me to sing. Little did I know then, that this would remain my most memorable song :)

When we heard and sang the whole song for the first time in the practice sessions, it moved all of us. Every time we sang it, the whole choir, including the conductor enjoyed it thoroughly. You could easily see that the song is emanating not from our voices, but from our hearts.

During one such practice sessions, while singing this song, I was looking at a photograph of Swami that was beside the entrance door to our left. It is a black-and-white one, showing Swami in His yesteryears, with His Hand raised in blessing. Being black-and-white gives it an antique look. It also brings in me, two precious feelings. One that Swami is '

Sanathana' - the One who is eternal and timeless. The second thought is that my relationship with Him is also something without any beginning or end. It makes me feel that our bond is not of this day. That He knew me from ages ago, births ago.

Particularly when I sing the following lines from the song, if I happen to look at that photo of Swami, my voice would totally choke and tears would flow down uncontrollably:

Climb the mountains, show me Your heaven

Lend me Your hand if I go astray

Life is magic when we're together

Close to You is where I will stay

You've got a fire in Your heart

I need Your flame to warm me when we're apart

When the world is dark I'll share Your light

You'll make my world a star in the nightEvery time we sang these lines, I could not resist from looking at that

photo of Swami,

knowing well I would break down. One of those times, I thought -

may be I was being odd in the group, I silently wiped my eyes and

looked at Ferry (another choir member from Slovenia who became a close friend of mine). Ferry was sitting beside me. His eyes were filled with

tears and he turned to me and said, " Hey....don't look at the photo in

black and white, if you wanna sing this song.... " You see...Swami, Music and Love are synonymous. They move all the hearts equally.

The full lyrics are given below and you can hear the song here:

The video is not relevant. Instead keep a Swami's photo before you and watch it while you listen to the song and you would know what I mean. Enjoy :)

Go to the land with the heaven aglow

Go to the home of the troll and the snow

Lead your dream by the hand

To wonderland

Go for the future you know you can win

Go for the goal that you carry within

Go where the wishes come true

I'll go with you

Climb the mountains, show me Your heaven

Lend me Your hand if I go astray

Life is magic when We're together

Close to You is where I will stay

You've got a fire in Your heart

I need Your flame to warm me when We're apart

When the world is dark I'll share Your light

You'll make my world a star in the night

Love is forever with You as my friend

When I am tired You cheer me again

You're my force when I fight

This game called life

Repeat.... " Climb the mountains.... "
