SAI RAM SISTER,

There is nothing new in this type of prayer. All Vedic Prayers take this type of construction. For example, Bhdram Karnebhih srunuyama devaah......., Sahanavavatu......., Tryambakam Yajamahe etc. etc. are all fashioned in this way. It is the Vedic form of prayer. 'May we pray' or 'let us pray' is a sort of exhortion, suggestion or guidance. This type of prayer is as ancient as the Vedas.

Incidentally, we need to understand the distinction between Stotra and Sloka(not sloga as stated in the mail). The word Stotra is derived from the root 'stu' which means 'to pray' Both Stuti and Stotra (which mean prayer) are derived from the same root. On the other hand, sloka means a verse or poem or poetry. A sloka need not necessarily be a prayer wherever all Stotras are prayers. Again, a Mantra is one which has to be chanted only in the prescribed manner. Mananaat Traayate Iti Mantrah---That which protects because of repeated chanting is a Mantra. Stotras and Slokas can be sung in any fashion,in any raga or tune. Mantras could be Stotras. But all stotras are not Mantras.

sairam , This manthra says ... ' may this ... may that .. ' Among the many slogas , this sort of manthra is the most

astoundingly powerful . This is because ., the self within thebeing is the originator of instructions and those instructions

come about as happenings in our life . When a sloga says ' God .. guru .. give me strength ..

give me .. ' That means , the body is pleading . But when we say ' may this happen .. ( like even the gayathri manathra) '

The very soul speaks !! That means .. a soul-to soul' tuning is happenningbetween the guru and the self . god and the self ! That is why this is 'manthra'

( magic ) and other prayers are ' slogas' ( praise of the diety ) . A manthrais of the soul or the self . A sloga is o f the body ,mind and emotions - of the

physical plane . I surrender Swami .. I do know that it is you who is giving these

explanations here , sairam ! sairam sairam sairam .
