Guest guest
Sairam Dear Sai Bandhus, Wish you all the guru worshipers a very blessed Datta Jayanthi. A perfect way to mark to the end of the year for all the mercies bestowed upon us by the Guru. Today I am very happy that I had the dream vision of MAster and I was totally ecstatic as I was sitting at His Holy feet and serving Him. Incidentally as I mentioned before I started listening to the pravachans of Shri Koteshwar Rao and commenced with Gurucharitra. It was not planned at all and by Baba's grace it is finished right in time for Datta Jayanthi. I consider it blessing from Master again that He took care of things for me. I want to share a thought with you all, which I learnt from the Pravachan's. It was interesting, that Shri Koteshwar Rao garu mentions that guru has His own way of accepting people and showering His grace after testing them. Once when Indira and other gods were tortured by Jambhasura, they all went in deputation to their guru - Bruhaspathi to seek out a solution. The guru then directed them to Sashadri parvath where Lord Dattatreya was residing. When they went down to earth they found Lord Dattatreya enjoying the company of women and appeared to have been drunk on Madhira and was not in control of His body or actions. Before bestowing grace Guru tests out the faith of the disciples and only one who has unshakeable faith and withstands His tests will earn His grace. Obviously Indira passed the test for he knew that lord Dattatreya was testing out their faith in Him. Listening to this story we - ordinary people would think when Lord Dattatreya, drank and enjoyed the company of women then why cannot "we" do the same. This is where people like us fall into the pit of darkness of the sin and ignorance. Guru, is the embodiment of the Lord, He is "gunateeth", beyond any character. Just as Hemadpanth mentions in Satharita that Baba never once moved from silence yet gave discourses, He saw "dance by dancing girls" yet He never moved from His godliness. This quality is possible only to gods. If people like us were to try and "ëmulate" gurus we fall on our faces. Guru has risen to the state of sainthood only after going through the strict discipline and controlling all the elements of the physical body and nature. We humans are filled with sinfull thoughts ideas, and materialistically oriented. We have yet to control the basic vices then how can we "emulate" guru? Our duty is to follow the teachings of the Guru and try and follow the path He showed us to overcome the temptations. Emulating a guru is like holding a candle to Sun. We fill fall into deeper pits of misery when we emulate Him. Often people say "my guru only says this stotra" so I will do the same or people dress like Baba. That is dangeraous, we have millions of years to go before we rise to the state of our Guru. Let us think twice before we do that, a true Guru has risen to that level because of His discipline and ability to discriminate between the truth and illusion, Bhagavaan Ramana suffered from cancerous tumour on His arm, Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa suffered from throat cancer yet they both did not move from their state of god hood, they knew that body was suffering not the soul which is their true self. We moan and groan at a bruise so are we capable of imitating our Gurus? Just as gold has to be subjected through rigourous treatment before it can be made into a beautiful ornament similarly we have to discipline our mind and control our vices through prayers, hymns, meditation and satsanga. Most important through our good actions. There is no use is showering abuses and indulging in selfish and harm inflicting attitudes while taking name of god. We have to gradually move up the spiritual planes which would take about many lifetimes before we can do what our gurus are doing. Let us all on this day of Datta Jayanthi ask lord for HIs grace to be good followers, and discipline our thoughts and actions this can happen only with HIS grace. The interpretation is based on my understanding of the context given in the pravachnas. Any mistakes are mine and seek Baba's forgiveness. Have a blissful day.
