The fourth incarnation of Lord Maha Vishnu amongst the ten prime Avataras is Lord Narasimha who emerged out of a pillar as Man-Lion, i.e.: Lion's head on Man's trunk. He devoured Demon-Lord Hiranyakashyapu who was Master Prahlada's father.

 

When Prahlada was in the womb of his mother, he had the fortune of listening to Devarshi Narada regarding Lord Vishnu's compassion towards to his devotees. Hence right from his birth, Prahlada was dedicated to the name of Lord Vishnu.

 

To mark the Sri Narasimha Swami's Jayanti and to pay our respect to the Lord, Narasimha Jayanthi is celebrated at several temples.

 

The most popular temples of Narasimha Swamy in Andhra pradesh are four in number

 

1. Ahobilam in Kurnool District2. Simhachalam Near Vishakapatnam3. Yadagiri Gutta near Bhongir4. Managalagiri near Guntur.

 

Other temples in Andhra pradesh are:

Antarvedi near Narsapur,Hemachalam near Warangal & Kadri in Ananthapur district.
