Is this praying structure given by Beloved Swami Sai Baba or is this a tradition in India or among devotees? I am a foreigner to the Indian traditions and culture and understanding why I should do something one way or the other would be very appreciated. Thank you very much, greetings, Sai Ram. Guest guest
Sai Ram Sister Mari I humbly would like to respond and I hope brother Mahadevan would not mind. He is very close to Swami and may be he can give better explanations. 1. First of all AUM is the pranava that represents teh "BIG BANG" of total creation Herbert Benson from teh Body-Mind - Science Institute from Harvard University did research with AUM, Vahe Gurur, Amen, Allah and Sholam, while regulated breating exercise was done and did PET scans. The Cingulate Gyrus, medial Orbito Frontal Gyrus, the seat of Human intelligence as per science, and representing the AJNA CHAKRA from Indian spiritual teachings lits up, more brilliantly and steadily with AUM. Even Science now is proving that AUM is the best Mantra to reach the AAJNA CHAKRA. 2. THREE (3) represents many like a). Attributes or Gunas, Rajas, Tamas, and Satwik qualities b).Time Past, Present, Future c).Three levels of human evolution, The Gross Body, Subtle Body and the Causal body. In christianity it can be the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost When repeated 21 times, any mantra,we are penetrating with each time a sheath of our Pancha Tanmaatralu. What are these Pancha Tanmaatralu?? 5 Sense Organs, 5 Organs of Actions that is related to Sight, Sound, Taste, Touch and Smell (10) 5 Bhootaas, or the prime elements that are also in human body, that are Space or Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth (5) 5 Sheaths that are Annamaya Kosa, Praanamaya Kosa, Manomaya Kosa, Jnaanamaya Kosa and Ananda Maya Kosa. SOme people eliminate teh 5 elements but include teh Vayus or 5 praanaas in teh pancha tanmaatralu, Vyana, Praana, Udaana, Samaana and Apaana. Final one is teh ATMA or the Sat-Chit-Ananda Swaroopam (20+1). I hope this amswers why the numbers. The Gayatri Mantra is teh queen of all mantras for self realization. But metering and chandas have to be just right. Swami in an interview said that it is OK to do as per the need and commitment o fteh individual, but odd numbers are better, like 3, 7, 9, 21. We have 7 types of Vayus ( sapaaswa samparidhaya) 9 types of Bhakti and number 9 is eternal and remains the same in all additions and multiplications 21 I already explained.
