Satsang with Anil Kumar 17/3- 2008 Satsang with Anil Kumar With a Russian Group Om Sai Ram . Good to see you all here this morning. I have a few thoughts about the human dynamics and the infrastructure of human existence I would like to share with you .We will compare the body, the mind and the intellect; how we can be functional due to consciousness. Life is a miracle, and if we haven’t had a taste of its mystery it only shows that we do not know how to approach it. We need a car or another vehicle to reach our destination. The vehicle should be kept in perfect condition in all aspects. Right petrol, oil, water, and it needs air if it has tyres. The gear and steering must be kept in control so that we can have a safe journey. If anything goes wrong with the vehicle we will face an accident or we will be in danger. The maintenance of the vehicle is necessary for a safe journey. Another point is if we start to fight with the vehicle we are lost. Then you cannot move, it is as if a man wants to reach somewhere, but he fights with his own legs and cuts them. So do not fight with the vehicle. Likewise the body is our vehicle, the mind is the steering, the intellect is the brake and the whole frame of the vehicle is our body. We have to keep the human machine the human body in good condition. We should not neglect our body; we should not lose our health. We are born as a body, we live as a body and we will die as a body. We can also go beyond the body and the mind but that journey has to go through the body, by the body. Every part of the

body has a specific duty, the eyes can see and the ears can hear. I cannot ask my ears to see, so every part has also its limitations. I can see through my eyes but I cannot see when there is high light intensity. If you go on looking at the sun, naturally your vision will be lost. So eyes can see in a certain limit. Likewise if your ears go on hearing very loud sounds, the ear drum will break and you will be deaf. So the body has to be kept in balance and all its specific qualities have to be exposed to an inner and outer harmony. Any misuse of any part of the body causes ill health. Baba said; people turn old by misuses of senses. Baba has given direction to the proper use of our senses. See what is good, see no evil, hear no evil, hear what is good, think no evil, and think what is good. Do no evil do what is good. This is the way we have to maintain our body senses in a harmonious way. The body has an important purpose. Without this body we had not been able to reach this Ashram. Without this body we could not be friendly and loving to each other. We couldn’t do any Sadhana. So for spiritual growth and also for the participation in whatever gift God gives

us in this worldly life we need a body. Body is important. Who made your body? Did you make your body yourself? No God did! So you have no right to condemn it. It is not good to have negative feelings towards the body, body is the gift of God; it is precious. At the same time it should be a means to an end but not the end in itself. The body is given to you as a vehicle so it will be possible for you to travel to the final destination. Realization of the Self; it is the bridge to cross the river with but

not to live for. The Body is given to us to travel from outwards to inwards, it is a spiritual journey. All the rest is an external and worldly journey. With this body we have to recognize that we are ultimately not the body. Within the frame of time and space we should know, timelessness and spacelessness, the finite to infinite. This is the spiritual journey. Everything we do in the right sense of religion has to end in this climax. Then there is the mind, the master of the senses. The real robber is the

mind. We punish the body for something the mind was responsible for, it is not justice. The mind is the actual thing that should be punished. Spiritual growth is to recognize, to know and to experience that the mind is the one to cultivate. The body simply works according to the will of the mind. Spirituality is to go deeply into the understanding of how our mind is functioning; if the mind is set right the whole world can be set right. Mind is like a pure mirror, if it is turned to the world it is worldly, sensual, desirable and dual. If the mirror is turned inward, it is spiritual, non dual, divine. So Sadhana is turning the mind inward. Sadhana is making

proper use of the body at the physical level. Turning the mind inward is Sadhana at the psychological or mental level. Turning the mind inward is meditation. Controlling the body is yoga. By yoga you can keep the body fit. By meditation you can keep and maintain the mind healthy. The intellect is another level. We are all educated people; we have

intellect to support whatever we do. My actions may be wrong but my intellect will come forward with arguments, explanation regarding my wrong actions. The intellect will support us for our own convenience. This is called individual discrimination and can sometimes be misinterpreted. If on the other hand the intellect is guided by wisdom it is called fundamental discrimination. Fundamental means what is good for everybody, for the whole. What is good only for me is individual so the intellect can have either individual discrimination or fundamental discrimination. True Sadhana is to make this intellect discriminate according to the fundamental discrimination or wisdom. So, selfless service, selfless action will make our body fit and in harmony with the mind. Devotion to God will make our mind peaceful and fundamental discrimination will make our intellect sharp and alert. Then there is a possibility to go beyond the mind and intellect to that which is called consciousness. Consciousness is present in the body, the mind and the intellect but none of them is presence in the consciousness. Current is in the bulb the bulb is not in the current. Consciousness is present in my body that is why I am quite active, consciousness is present in my mind therefore I am quite sharp and I am alert because the consciousness is present in my intellect. This is the dynamic of life. The knowledge of our own center makes us a master of our self. Otherwise you are a slave of so many, you are just at the mercy of anyone, they can do anything to you, push and pull you, obviously you will be in trouble. Consciousness makes us a witness and undisturbed by outer conditions. Finally we have to experience the Atma, the Bliss, Divine power of Grace Love and light. So the body, the mind and the intellect is essential to be able to reach the Divine Bliss or Divine consciousness. Although the Atma can exist in the body, mind and intellectual level, it can also go beyond. Whether the bulb is working or not the current is there. The wire is seen, the current is not seen. That current which is not seen is Atma or consciousness. Life is a combination of both,

that what we see and that what we don’t see. Expressed and unexpressed. Manifest and not manifest. You see my body but you do not see my life-force. The body is to be seen while the life-force is unseen. Understanding of this is knowledge or Jnaana. To know that the unseen is the fundamental principal which makes the seen works is pure knowledge. Science deals with the seen and spirituality deals with the unseen but by moving here with Baba we have to deal with both. The known and the unknown. Baba has started

so many colleges and super speciality hospitals. He was born in a very poor family, in Puttaparthy a small village far away from the rest of the world. At that time He had no one to support Him, no support from the government or any community. Today, it is one of the biggest international centers in India and also the world. It is His Divinity which made it, it is unseen. In Prasanthi Nilayam Baba is seen as a Divine presence. The unseen presence of Baba makes all the institutions perfect and strong; but unfortunately we see all this beauty but we forget the builder, the founder and the director. We think that we are very successful but we forget the

Master. There is all possibility to forget the unseen. True Sadhana my friends is to be aware of the seen and the unseen as a whole. “Creation is a manifestation of the union of the Seer and the Seen” Baba I hope I have been clear and that I have been able to reach you. It is difficult to get such a good ensemble of devotee’s, true seekers and one such group is from Russia. Based on this I welcome question on related topics. What is the importance on food in the spiritual development or spiritual life? Diet regulation is very important in the spiritual life and development. Personally I am not an expert in diet. Myself, I drink coffee and I eat spicy food. I can just copy what Baba says. Vegetarian food is Satvic food, less spicy food is Satvic and also to eat once a day, lunch is Satvic. Only half of the stomach should be filled and the other half should be kept empty. Personally I am full all the time that is why I hesitate to speak on diets. Baba says you should feel light even after dining. Some people even need support to get up after lunch. Food doesn’t only mean that what we eat. All that we see around is food for the eye. Vision, that which we see should be pure and sacred. See creation from the point of view of the creator, so you may enjoy the creation of the creator. This is the Satvic food for the eye. We hear all sorts of nonsense. All this is like junk food for the mind. It will poison the whole system if we do not take care. Satsang, Bhajan is Satvic for the ear. Everything in life has to go through our five senses of cognition. All the food we eat should be clean and prepared in clean utensils. If we are the one who is making the food we should keep the mind pure with loving thoughts while cooking. The energy of the chef will be passed on to the guests who are eating the food. As is the food so is the mind, as is the mind so is the thought, as is the thought so is the action, as is the action so is the result. Take every help that can be give from the outer world to go more inside to the center of your being. It is good to have right food, right behavior but it is an obstacle to be obsessive or neurotic about it. Remember that the inner or consciousness is important, the outer is helpful. Is Sivarathri a time of cleansing the body and mind? I felt it was like that but it might be my imagination. It

is not only a cleaning that is going on. We are also filling up the body with purity. Cleaning here means making the body and mind empty. It may be filled with old stuff which doesn’t serve us any longer. It can be ideas, habits or anything which makes us stiff, angry, sad, and revengeful etc. Throwing it out is cleaning and filling it up with wisdom and pure consciousness is purifying. Both have taken place in you, so you have really observed Sivarathri in true spirit. God bless you. Is it possible for Russian children to be part of Baba’s school? Everyone has a right to apply to Baba’s school. If you are a foreigner you need the right visa, the right papers to study in India. Any questions about the school have to go through the right person and that is the Principle of the Trust. You are welcome to go there and ask. The Trust office is usually available around 12.00 a clock. Thank you very much
