Simply because I wish or pray for the death of another person that person will not die consequent on my wishes or prayers. Death is like a return air ticket wherein the date of return journey is written in indelible ink by God. So also even if trillions of men and women pray and wish long life for say, a noble soul, it will not materialise. Each one of us is accountable for our present as well as past Good and bad thoughts, actions etc. etc. Depending on the gravity of those actions etc., one has to live in a particular embodiment for predetermined number of years, months,days, hours, minutes and seconds. Hence tell your patient not to worry.
