Ramchand Chugani Feb 12, 2008 6:13 PMK.L FOR FEB KANSAI LIGHT FEBRUARY , 2008. ISSUE News letter of Sri Sathya Sai Organization Japan address: I.S.S, 2nd Fl, 1-3, Kumochi 5-Chome, Chuo Ku Kobe Tel: 078-222-1885, Email: rgcjp (Please print this copy for your reference) ...................................................................................................................................... . SWAMI :SAYS....VISION WITHOUT ACTION IS A DREAM...ACTION WITHOUT VISION COULD BECOME A NIGHT

MARE.THEREFORE VISION AND ACTIONS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD...BABA ................................................................................................................................... ACT XII - SCENE 1 The scene is Seshama Raju's house. Word has spread that Sathya has given a blank answer. Seshama has heard the news; he is worried and questioning Sathya about it. SESHAMA RAJU: Sathyam, it seems You have given blank answer books in the exam. Are You not serious about studies? SATHYA: It is not correct to say that I have not written the exam. I have done so. SESHAMA: But Your Teacher told me that You did not write even a single word in the answer paper! SATHYA: He will

himself tell you that I answered very well. SESHAMA: I don't like this attitude. You are behaving like a crazy person. Tomorrow when the marks are announced, we will know the stuff You are made of. I shall then teach You a fitting lesson! SUSEELA

[to husband]: Please take this…….Sathyam, freshen Yourself, and come for tiffin. SCENE 2 The scene now shifts to the Staff Room in the School. The Telugu Teacher Koteeswara Rao, who was supervising during the examination continues to be puzzled about what happened. He expresses his misgivings to two colleagues. TELUGU TEACHER: Vasudeva Murthy, it is very interesting! Not

a single letter was written on the answer sheet that Sathyam had on His desk. Yet, when I sat down to evaluate, I found that the answers were all there and absolutely correct too! What do you have to say about this? THE THIRD TEACHER: Really? VASUDEVA MURTHY: What do you mean by asking "really", when Koteeswara Rao Master telling you what actually happened! Are you suggesting that he is uttering falsehood? THE OTHER TEACHER: No sir, I didn't mean it that way! TELUGU TEACHER: Shut up! …..A few days ago, I asked Sathyam to materialise a citrus fruit for me. Just as He was about to give the fruit to me, I wanted it changed to a custard apple, which He did. I did not give much thought to this incident, dismissing it as mere magic. But from this miracle it would appear that Sathyam is a boy with a Divine aspect in

Him. OTHER TEACHER: Sir, if you want to believe in it do so, or else forget the whole thing. Don't believe and entertain doubts at the same time. TELUGU TEACHER: It is not quite like that. Those two dunces Ramesh and Mahesh who normally are unable to answer any question, they too have answered very well! THIRD TEACHER: What is there so surprising about it? Were they not sitting near Sathyam? Obviously, His intelligence has rubbed off on them too. TELUGU TEACHER: Are you saying that's all there is to it? THIRD TEACHER: Yes sir, that's all there is to it. TELUGU TEACHER: I am not too sure; I have my own doubts. … [summons the School assistant] Yadagiri, go and fetch Ramesh and Mahesh. YADAGIRI: Yes sir! Yadagiri goes out. He finds Ramesh and Mahesh playing there along with other boys. YADAGIRI: Ramesh! Mahesh! The Telugu Master is calling for you both. Go, and hurry up! RAMESH & MAHESH: We will

come. OTHER BOYS: OK fellows, let's continue our game. Staff Room again. TELUGU TEACHER: Listen you two! Never in your life have you answered any questions properly in the class, and yet you two have answered so well in the exam. Between us, tell me, did you copy? RAMESH: No sir! How could we copy when you were there invigilating? Besides, we would never do such a thing! TELUGU TEACHER: Then how come all your answers are correct? MAHESH: Sir, we studied hard and prepared well at home. TELUGU TEACHER: In that case, I shall ask those

questions now, and you had better answer them! RAMESH: At that time we knew the answers…. MAHESH: Sir, we wrote very fast,……. RAMESH: And now we have forgotten all the answers! TELUGU TEACHER: Oh I see, you have forgotten, have you?! TEACHER: What is so strange about it Sir? Although I was

taught about the Indus Valley civilisation so many times, I don't remember a thing! TELUGU TEACHER [to Ramesh and Mahesh]: Great souls! Do you know that in the entire class, only three have passed? And Sathyam has done so in the First Class! Go and tell the others. RAMESH & MAHESH: Thank you sir! SCENE 3 News spreads that in Sathya's class, only three boys pass – Sathya, Ramesh, and Mahesh. Among the three, Sathya secures a First Class. By way of celebration, Sathya is carried through the streets of the village by His classmates in a sort of 'victory parade'. They hail His success. The cheer leader shouts "RAJU" and the others shout "FIRST CLASS" in chorus. BOYS: Raju,….. First Class! Raju,…..First Class! Raju,…..First Class. The villagers watch with surprise. They want to know what is going on. A MAN [to one of the boys in the procession]: Hey boy, come here. What's this carnival procession all about? BOY: This is no carnival sir, but a celebration of the announcement of the exam

results. Our Raju has passed First Class in our School. ANOTHER MAN: That is strange! It appears that Raju didn't write anything; and yet He gets a First Class! FIRST MAN: The boy must be a favourite of the teacher – that is all there is to it! Meanwhile, the procession moves ahead. BOYS [chorus]: Raju, …..First Class! Raju,…….

First Class! Raju, …..First Class!…. Another group of people sees the procession, and starts its analysis. MAN 1: The exam results have been announced. MAN 2: That is the reason for all this excitement among the boys. MAN 1: It seems that Raju knows all the Mantras and the tricks! MAN 2: They say that Raju even has Divine powers. AN OLD MAN: These are not miracles. Sathyam does not have to write exams; He knows everything anyway. Sathyam is not an ordinary boy but a Divine one; He is an Incarnation of God. SCENE 4 Seshama Raju's house. Sathya comes home to announce the outcome of the examinations. SATHYA: Brother,

……brother, I have passed in the First Class! SESHAMA: What?! SUSEELA [to husband]: Sathyam has just entered; hold on and wait! Don't start your questions right away! SESHAMA: I know very well when

to talk, what to talk and to whom! You go and attend to your work. … [to Sathya] Sathyam,….. Hey Sathyam, come here. It seems your friends carried You on their shoulders and paraded You all over the town like a God being taken in a chariot? What for? Is it because You have passed? SATHYA: Yes brother. In our class, only three students passed, and among these, I alone secured a First Class. That was the reason for the parade. SESHAMA: Why were the other two who also passed not paraded like You? SATHYA: That's because they also were lifting Me! SESHAMA: I see. ….. But your Teacher said that You did not write anything and gave a blank paper. Is that true, or even though You wrote all the answers, the Master falsely declared to me, "Your boy gave me a blank answer sheet!"? SATHYA: What the Master said is true. It is also true that he saw all the answers on the paper while correcting. That is why I passed. SESHAMA: If You knew the answers, then why did You not write them in the first place? You could have answered the questions even then! SATHYA: The Master saw all the answers in the answer book, and that is why I passed. SESHAMA: I

will get furious if You keep on giving such irritating replies. It is good that You enjoy Divine Grace. But others should not dismiss it all as magic, trickery, and sorcery. It would be better if You behave like all normal boys do. SATHYA: Brother, I did not do anything wrong. I know no magic or trickery. God is in everyone. I have identified Myself with the Divine in Me, and I follow My own way – that's all. SESHAMA: [totally perplexed]: I don't know whether You understand what You are saying; I certainly don't! SCENE 5 Staff Room in the School. Three teachers, the Telugu Teacher, the Maths Teacher, and the Teacher for Social Sciences are having a conversation. MATHS TEACHER: I am not able to find my pen; I had left it on this table here, and I am exhausted searching for it. TELUGU TEACHER: Did the pen acquire legs and walk away from the table? You must have left in some class. Try to remember. MATHS TEACHER: Is a pen a desire like what people give up when they go to the holy city of Benares? SOC. SC. TEACHER: After all it is a pen, and you are making a big fuss as though you lost something precious. By the way, where do you think you lost the pen?

TELUGU TEACHER: If he knew that, would he be bothering us so much? First he severely boxed the ears of the boys, then searched all the servants and now has begun to suspect everyone he sees! As if it is a new pen! It is old, and belongs to the Aurangazeb era! The nib had become blunt and the cap was just junk! MATHS TEACHER: So what if it is old? Old is gold! SOC. SC. TEACHER: So you lost gold?! MATHS TEACHER: For me, my pen is like gold. TELUGU TEACHER: Listen, let's not argue. We will call Sathyam and ask Him. In just a snap, He will tell us who has the pen, who stole it, etc. Master, you do one thing; go and fetch Sathyam. SOC. SC. TEACHER: I shall [goes out]. TELUGU TEACHER: I wonder where

your pen has disappeared? MATHS TEACHER: Me too. The Social Science Teacher locates Sathya and asks Him to come to the Staff Room. SOCIAL SC. TEACHER: Sathyam my boy, come with me. SATHYA: Yes sir. SOCIAL TEACHER: Come boy. The two go to the Staff Room. TELUGU TEACHER: Sathyam, come my boy, come. Master here has lost his pen, which for him is very precious like gold. Can You tell us where it is, and who has taken it? SATHYA: Sir, servant Yadagiri has taken it. MATHS TEACHER: Yadagiri? ….Yadagiri will never do such a thing. I have full faith in his honesty. TELUGU TEACHER: You may have

that belief, but know that what Sathyam says is the truth. Trust Sathyam! At this stage, the Head Master of the School walks in. HEAD MASTER: What's all this? Looks like you teachers are having a meeting? MATHS

TEACHER: No sir; just that I lost my pen. TELUGU TEACHER: And Sathyam says that servant Yadagiri has taken it. HEAD MASTER: Sathyam said that? Then that must be the truth. Yadagiri, did you take the pen? YADAGIRI: Sir, what pen? What will an illiterate like me do with a pen? SATHYA: You may be illiterate but your son is studying, is he not? YADAGIRI: But he is not here! SATHYA: He is studying in Anantapur and using that pen there, is he not? YADAGIRI: I am here all the time; how then did the pen find its way to

Anantapur? SATHYA: You sent the pen through the boy's mother. The pen is red in colour! MATHS TEACHER: That's right! The pen is red in colour! HEAD MASTER: Yadagiri, is what Sathyam saying correct? YADAGIRI: The boy has described it as though He had personally seen it! Forgive me sir, I did take the pen. HEAD MASTER: Everyone used to say that you were most reliable, faithful, and humble. But Sathyam has revealed your true colours. Listen, never do such a thing again……. Sathyam, come with me; I must speak to you. The Head Master leaves along with Sathya. TELUGU TEACHER [with folded hands]: Great man! [to Yadagiri] The Moghuls robbed our temples, the British stole our trade, and now our own

people are robbing us! At least spare the chalk and pens! (To be continued) ................................................................................................................................... Sri Sai Baba Experiences of Devotees: RamkumarWe wish to share our experience to show Baba's infinite mercy on His bhakthas. We had purchased a house and were waiting for it to be delivered. Meanwhile, the house prices had gone down drastically and everyday we were depressed over the loss we incurred. We had given up all hope, but one fine morning it all happened. As a part of their anniversary sale, the builder had advertised quick delivery homes which were

the top of the line in their community than the basic one we bought and we submitted a request to switch us to one of the bigger homes for the same price. The builder, after much hesitation agreed to switch us (it is very difficult as they lose a buyer by doing so). Please note that the previous lot number was 105 and the new one is 150. It is all Baba's mercy that saved us. Look at Sai's leela. It didn't end there. Due to my wife's health problems, we were worried if the grahapravesham will go fine. Not only did Sai ensure that it went fine, but He also blessed us with His picture through one of the attendees as well as the calendar that we had requested. ParthasarathyMy wife delivered a baby boy on 10th January 2008, Thursday [baba's day] at 3:44 pm. It was not a normal delivery. It was a caesarian. Till 9th January 2008 the baby weighed only 2 kgs. I prayed to Baba to increase the weight. When the baby was born he weighed 2.4 kgs. Baba had

increased the weight of the baby by answering my prayers. Now both my wife and the baby are safe and got discharged on 14th January 2008. Kindly continue to shower Your blessings on three of us to lead a simple and devotional life. We three surrender completely at Your lotus feet. Koti Pranam Sainath. ShivaI have been in some trouble, he knows, for a long time. I pray to Sai everyday to take me out of this situation, but, I feel some times he is not with me. I have some plans to implement for myself and others, still reluctant to implement. Today is my birthday and I thought of not celebrating this even. I don't know how I was forced to open my briefcase for a book named 'Devotees's problems, Baba's answers' in the morning. I purchased this book in Shirdi in my last visit. Ask Baba a question and select a random number between 1 to 999, and the sentences assigned to that number, the previous number and the next number are Baba's answers. Believe it

or not, you know my question? "Are you with me?". I chose a number between 1 and 999 and I was shocked to see the answers. Here are the three sentences I saw. 1. You will be supported by your siblings and friends always. 2. I am with you always, Believe me and proceed to implement whatever you want. 3. Today is a good day and no one can change your luck. When I was on call with my father yesterday, he told me today is going to be very good day. I did not heed to my father's words. Baba told me the same in his answers. I cried a lot, for asking Baba that stupid question. I know he is with me. He proved it again for me. He is with everyone who loves and prays him. I ran to take bath and get ready. Thanks for being with me BABA. Give me good health and support to implement my plans on time. (SHARING WITH SHIRDI BABA'S LOVE) RAM.CHUGANI An eye witness account from a student of the Sri Sathya Sai Higher Secondary School involving an extremely moving incident between a child and his Divine Parent. An extract from the February 1995 issue of the

Sanathana Sarathi A few years ago at the time when preparations were being made to begin the construction of the Super Speciality Hospital, Bhagawan seemingly had less time to devote to the students. Day and night He was busy with matters relating to the new hospital. Every evening immediately after darshan

Bhagawan would call a group of doctors for an interview and He would discuss with them matters relating to the new hospital, even the most minute details, as this was to be a model hospital. Bhagawan would come out of the interview room only after the evening bhajans had commenced and thus the students did not have much of an opportunity to interact with Bhagawan during this period. Previously after the evening interview Bhagawan would come out and speak to the students and guide them, but this wasn't possible at that time as Bhagawan was extremely busy. There was one very young student of Bhagawan who could no longer bear the pangs of separation from his mother Sai. He wrote a letter to Bhagawan one day and took it during evening darshan but unfortunately he was sitting a few rows back. When Bhagawan came to his side this boy got up and offered his letter to Bhagawan. Bhagawan stopped, leaned over and made a special effort to take this young boy's letter.

To say the least this boy was ecstatic. Then the darshan continued and as usual Bhagawan called a group of doctors for an interview. All the students were depressed as they felt they had been deprived of the love of their mother Sai yet another day. Then, after about five minutes, to everyone's utter amazement, the interview room door flew open and Bhagawan emerged in all His glory holding a small letter in His hand, the letter of the young boy. Bhagawan called that young boy to come near and asked him, "Boy, should I read aloud what you have written to me in this letter, so that everyone may listen." The innocent boy replied. "Whatever you think or wish, Bhagawan" Bhagawan himself read the letter aloud so that all could hear. The letter was as follows: Dear Bhagawan, You have given so much to me and to every one here. You have provided free education for me and all my brothers and now I hear that you are constructing a BIG Hospital that will provide the most modern health care facilities to every section of the society totally free of cost. Bhagawan! I also want to be a part of your glorious mission but I am just a small boy and I don't know how I can contribute. Bhagawan, my parents are extremely poor but in spite of that they send me a little extra pocket money every month. I know it's due to their love and concern for me. "Bhagawan! For the last three months I have not given my clothes to the dhobi. While all other boys were sleeping in the night I washed my clothes and thus I managed to save a little

money. Bhagawan! I have also resisted the temptation of toffees, chocolates and all other things and thus managed to save a little money. Bhagawan! I offer this 100 rupee note to you. I feel ashamed and small to give you so little but even if this money can be used to buy a small brick for the foundation of the new hospital, I will be the happiest child in the world. Your loving Son." You know the twinkle in the eye of a mother when her son does something that makes her feel extremely proud. Well, that twinkle was there in Bhagawan's eye. Holding the 100 rupee note in His hand, Bhagawan said to that young boy. "My dear son, this is not just 100 rupees, this note is worth millions and millions of rupees for Me." What do we learn from this? In God's kingdom power, wealth, position and status are of no importance whatsoever. God only looks to see whether our heart is pure. For, had God looked at the magnitude of one's sacrifice, would Lord Rama accept the jungle fruits from the hands of Sabari and relish them, would Lord Krishna accept the banana peels instead of the bananas from the hands of Vidura and feast on them and would Bhagawan leave aside a group of highly educated doctors in the interview room and come and spend the time with this young boy? God only searches for our love and devotion. Just before the war Arjuna was full of doubt but after receiving the

message of Lord Krishna all his doubts vanished, his delusion was removed, he regained his memory and he told LORD KRISHNA: "KARISHYE VACHANAM TAVAI will do as you tell me". The same principle holds good for our sports meet as well. Bhagawan guides us, inspires us, and mentions to us how the sports meet should be conducted. From then onwards all the students, right from primary to P.G. level, spare no efforts in fulfilling Bhagawan's wish, even if it means foregoing sleep, food and comfort. The students don't mind at all. The work done is thus transformed into worship because in everyone's mind there is only one thought and that is to please Bhagawan. .................................................................................................................................. The Sai Pearls Talk Given by Anil Kumar "Sai Pearls of Wisdom" Part 22 November 11th, 2003 OM… OM… OM… Sai Ram With Pranams at the Lotus Feet of Bhagavan, Dear Brothers and Sisters, Welcome back to Sai Pearls of Wisdom session. After a gap of about six months, we are meeting here for the first time. I am extremely happy and grateful to Swami for having made the Sai Pearls quite popular. People have been browsing their computers and they have been expressing their satisfaction about it. As the matter is not accessible to everybody and as everyone is quite anxious to know what is being transacted there on the veranda between Swami and the students, we are catching up with this information

day-by-day. I thank all of you for the keen interest you have been showing, and for the encouragement that you have been giving me from time-to-time to continue this project. We commence from the month of August 2003. Swami returned here in the month of July, around the 9th. The sessions started only in the month of August, because in earlier periods, as you know, it was not possible for us to interact with Him. It was not until the month of August that He preferred to spend some time with us. I want to bring to your attention a few of the important points that happened on 11th of August 2003. Symposium for School Teachers Around that time, under the auspices of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, we had a symposium for school teachers. As you know, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning has been judged the best in the country, and the University Grants Commission requested Sri Sathya Sai University to conduct some orientation courses for school teachers, so that they will apply values in their teaching, as well as in practice. So, we had a symposium for teachers from different schools, and around 50 of them were selected for the first batch. Professors from Sathya Sai University were given topics, and each one was to deal with a particular topic. I should say without the least bit of exaggeration that

the entire symposium went on very, very well, much to the satisfaction of the organisers and also the participants. It is in that connection that a conversation took place that evening, on 11th of August 2003. As it was a long time since we had Bhagavan in our midst, naturally we were thrilled. We were very much excited to find Him sitting on the chair and talking to every one of us, because for a couple of months we were away from Him physically. Bhagavan was equally happy to talk to us that day, and He exceeded even bhajan time, which rarely happens. As bhajan time is nearing, He usually winds up the talk, and proceeds towards the bhajan hall. But this time, the conversation went on, meaning we also took some bhajan session time. It speaks of the eagerness of the students and the Love of Bhagavan.

Unity of Religions Bhagavan started asking us some questions. He looked straight at me and said, "What was your topic? On what topic did you speak to those teachers?" I said, "Bhagavan, I spoke on the unity of religions." "Oh, I see." Then Swami put a question "How did you explain this unity? What are the examples that you have given in support of your topic?" I answered this way: "Bhagavan, Your discourses come to my rescue every time. All the valuable things that I hear and the pearls that I collect

from Your Lotus Feet are of immense value to me. I make use of that literature." And then I started to tell Swami like this: "Bhagavan, I explained the six major religions on the basis of values, not on the basis of rituals. Religions differ so far as rituals are concerned. But religions are united and religions are in harmony when we take spirituality into consideration. If you go by rituals, we are divided. If you think of spirituality, we stand united." That's what I said. "For instance, Swami, Truth, Righteousness, Peace, Love, Non-violence -- all the values that You talk to us about are common to all religions. Therefore, when we are value-based, we will be able to arrive at unity". That is what I said. "Swami,

I recalled what You said in this line, and I shared it with those teachers on that day." Swami did not leave me at that stage. Further He said, "What are the religions that you spoke on?" "Swami, the six major religions." "What are they?" "Yes, these are the following six major religions followed in this country: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Islam and

Sikhism." "Gold is Same but Jewels are Many" Then Swami said, "OK, how did you proceed?" Then I said, "Swami, I made three points: first, the important points of each of these six religions. Second point was about the basic values like Truth, Righteousness, Non-violence, Peace and Love, and what each religion has got to say on these values. Third, I told of Bhagavan's views on each of these religions. I made in a tabular form, Swami, with the principles

first. Next, I talked about these values and what they tell, and finally Swami's views on these religions." Well, I could find an expression of satisfaction on His face. (Laughter) Then, however, Bhagavan asked, "What are the examples you have given to tell them that unity of religions is necessary? How could you prove that there is unity?" I said, "Swami, I've taken an example from Your literature. Gold is same, but jewels are many. Flowers are many, but worship is same. Out of the same clay, so many pots are made. Goal is one, though paths are many. Sky is one, though stars are many. You have

given a number of examples, Swami, and I cited all of them. They seem to have been convinced." Then Swami put a very pertinent question. "Where have you learned this unity of religions?" "Swami, I must admit I have learned this unity after coming to You." "Oh, how could you learn?" (Laughter) "You say you have learned unity of religions after coming to Me. How did you learn?" "I Have Learned it Here" I said, "Swami, the place itself conveys sufficient message. As we come to this place, we come across Sri Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium, where we have statues of Krishna, Lord Shiva, Jesus Christ, Guru Nanak, Lord Buddha. All these statues, each 20 to 30 feet high, speak of the unity of religions. Passing by, we come across Chaitanya Jyothi Museum, which speaks of the unity of religions through charts and computer presentations. And then we go into Prashanthi Nilayam. There is the Sarva Dharma Stupa, which is a

symbol of unity of all religions. You must have seen it behind the Poornachandra Auditorium. That pillar with a lotus flower is a symbol of the unity of religions. Important points of all the religions are carved on each side of its foundation wall. As we go into Poornachandra Auditorium, we find all these things embossed on the wall: There is Christ surrounded by sheep, the Guru Granth, the Holy Book of Sikhism, the Holy Fire of Zoroastra, and Lord Krishna talking to Arjuna. The Poornachandra Auditorium also speaks of unity of religions. This place itself has got a message based on the unity of religions. I have learned it here only, Swami." That's what I said. "How Diversity Has Come Out of This" And then, Swami said, "All right, you say unity is there. Explain how diversity has come out of this." Well, all the answers were exhausted. I had to lift both of my hands in helplessness. Then, there was no other alternative than to surrender to the Lotus Feet. Then Swami started speaking on this topic: "Look, you have eyes, ears, hands and legs. All these limbs of the body belong to you only. Limbs and organs are many, but they belong to you, is it not? Similarly, all these religions are like limbs. They all speak about the same

God. That is unity." That's what Bhagavan has said. "And further, if you know one person clearly, you will be able to know everybody else. Here is a simple example. Every medical student studies the parts of a single person. The same parts are present everywhere. The eye structure of Me is same as the eye structure of you. The ear structure of Me is same as the ear structure of you as well. Similarly, if you know one, you will know everyone. That is what unity is." That is what Bhagavan has said. Therefore, though there are so many bulbs illumining and shedding light, the brilliant current behind is one and the same. That's how you can certainly establish unity, as Bhagavan has said.

"How to Achieve Unity?" "Swami, all right! A simple question." Swami said, "What is it?" "Swami, how do we achieve unity? I have known unity theoretically. Diversity is what I see. But, how do we achieve unity? How do we attain

unity? That's my question." And Bhagavan said, "That principle which is not seen is responsible for the functioning of the whole of the body that you see. The hands that you see work because of Divinity. The legs walk because of Divinity. Eyes see because of Divinity. So, these limbs are seen, but the Divinity is unseen. When you think of that unseen, single principle of Divinity, naturally you can attain unity." We are not able to understand unity because our vision, our understanding, is divided so we don't think of the main source. If we think of the main source, naturally we'll attain unity. That's what Bhagavan has said. Then I made one comment, because on every occasion we want to exhibit our scholarship or knowledge in a foolish way, and get into a problem. That's what happens, particularly with Swami. One has to be very careful. But I am known for these things, putting questions every time so I can extract some information from Swami that will be useful to everybody. At times, the questions may look quite silly, out of context and irrelevant. But the matter that I get from Swami thereafter will be of immense value to everybody. The Secret of Education Now I said, "There is one character in Bhagavatha by name Prahlada. This boy Prahlada said to his father, "Oh father, I could know the marma (Sanskrit word, meaning 'secret' or 'mystery') of the whole knowledge." Baba caught hold of my neck now! Then He said, "What is the meaning of marma?" I said, "Swami, 'essence'." Prahlada said he could know the marma of education, meaning he could know the essence of education. Baba said, "No. It is not essence. It is a secret. Marma means the secret

of education." And then He asked me, "Oh I see, now tell me the secret of education." (Laughter) What shall I say? "Swami, I don't know anything else other than what I remember. I don't know anything else other than what You said, which I happened to hear and translate. What can I do, Swami?" He said, "Nothing wrong. Tell what you know. Come on!" He insisted that I should say. "All right. Swami, I will quote Your own poem. One time You said: 'The essence of all sacred texts all over the world can be summarised in a single sentence. This is the secret of education. What is that? The same Self is present in everybody. The Self in you is the same as the Self in everyone. That is the secret of education.' O Swami, so simple!" Then further Swami commented, "Correct! Why do you hesitate to tell what you know? Why are you afraid to tell that which you feel correct? You have given the correct

answer." "Path to Unity is Self-Enquiry" Then Swami said, "What did you have in the college?" "Swami, we had a symposium in the college." Now He started asking questions. "What is a symposium?" "Swami, a symposium is a process, a phenomenon, where different perspectives, different viewpoints on a single topic are projected by different participants. The theme is only one. On a single theme, people present different viewpoints, different aspects." Swami said, "No, you are wrong. Yes, good, good." (Laughter) "Then Swami, what else is symposium?" Then Swami said, "You are wrong. Symposium is not division. You said there are different points on the same topic. You are wrong. Division is not symposium. Union is symposium.

S-y-m means 'union'. 'Symposium' means where people unite. It is not, as you said, where they divide. (Laughter) So, you are wrong. They unite." "Oh I see, Swami, all right." That's what Bhagavan said. "Self-Enquiry is the Only Way to Attain Unity" "Swami, what should I do? What practice should I follow to experience this spirit of unity?"

Then I just gave some more points for Swami to speak on, to provoke Him, (Laughter) and to get some 'bangings' in turn. "Swami, people say that japa or penance, dhyana or meditation, puja or worship, and prayer are different paths, different spiritual exercises, done to attain unity. Which one should I follow? " Swami said "None of them." (Laughter) "None of them?" "Yes." "Swami, so what should I do now?" (Laughter) Baba said, "Enquiry, the path of enquiry: Put to your self the question, 'Who am I?' I am not the body, I am not the mind, and I am not the intellect. I am the Self.' Self-enquiry is the only path to attain unity." But I didn't want to keep quiet at that stage. "So, Swami, do You mean to say that meditation is useless? Do You mean to say that worship is a fit-for-nothing process? So, shall I stop all these things?" Then Baba said, "No. These are all the processes that will make you fit

enough to enquire within yourself." I think I am clear. By meditation, your mind will develop concentration, which will help you to make Self-enquiry. By worship, your mind becomes pure, fit enough for Self-enquiry. So all the paths we are adopting make the ground ready, make the mind ready, to turn inward and proceed along the path of enquiry. You see that is the uniqueness of Baba. He says one thing; at the same time, he does not reject the other thing. They are all necessary to have bliss. That is Bhagavan Baba. "Bhakti

and Karma are Present in the Path of Wisdom" So, this Self-enquiry is very necessary. But for that, meditation and bhajan are all necessary. It makes you fit enough, and it equips you. "Swami, excellent!" And then, "Swami, I have got one more question." "What is it?" "Swami, people say that the path of enquiry is the path of wisdom, jnana, which is superior or most high. It is the highest level of

spirituality. So, is it enough if I proceed in that direction, because it is the highest level? It's a non-stop air flight. Why change over in Bombay or Frankfurt? It's not necessary. Go straight! So, Swami shall I proceed along the path of enquiry, which is the path of jnana yoga, straightaway? People say that it is most superior." Baba said, "No, you are wrong again. Even in the path of wisdom, action or karma is present. There is also present bhakthi or devotion. Even in the path of wisdom, these two are there." Mere wisdom is only the collection of facts, knowledge, if there is no action. Mere wisdom makes you arrogant if there is no devotion. So, wisdom will find its fulfillment, wisdom will find

its fructification, only if coupled with action and devotion. That's what Bhagavan has said. ................................................................................... "There is nothing like a Higher or Lower Level in Spirituality" Anyway, I wanted to put another question. "Swami, excuse me for putting this question. Would You please let me know what is the best method in spiritual practice or sadhana? What is the most suitable way? Which is

higher than the others?" (Because we want to be high in life, you know, so I asked, "Which is superior? Please let me know.") Baba said, "Remember always that there is nothing like one being superior or the other being inferior in spirituality. There is nothing like a higher level and a lower level. The higher and lower are only competitive, comparative words used in worldly parlance or in a worldly sense. But in spirituality, there is nothing like superior or inferior. There is nothing like higher level and lower level. Everything is the same. That's what you have to understand." "Swami, how am I to know? I think I am a bit higher than others (Laughter) because I am sitting on a chair." (Laughter)

Now Baba said, "If you stand in water knee-deep, you can see and talk to everybody. If you are in water neck-deep, you can still talk to everybody. If you drown yourself totally, you cannot communicate anything to anybody. (Laughter) Similarly, the ultimate experience is silence. So long as you speak of superior and inferior, you have not got anything. When you remain silent, when you remain speechless, that is the attainment of unity. Harmony is oneness, without any kind of comparison." That's what Bhagavan has said. "After Self-Enquiry, What am I Going to Become?" "Then another question, Swami." "Yes, what is it?" "Swami, it's very good. After Self-enquiry, after realising the Self, what is going to happen to me? (Laughter) After getting MSc., what will happen? You'll become a lecturer. After getting Ph.D., what will happen? You'll become a professor. So similarly, after Self-enquiry, what is going to happen to me? What am I going to become after this?" Baba laughed and said, "You are not going to become anything. (Laughter). There is nothing to become also." (Laughter) "Oh I see. Swami, how?" Baba said, "It seems that a parrot made up of sugar candy wanted to know the depth of the ocean. So, this parrot, which was made up of sugar, went close to the ocean and dove into the ocean to search how deep it was. In the meantime, while searching, it got dissolved. Similarly, in the process of Self-enquiry, you are lost; you are gone. You become one with the vast universe. You are one with the infinite. You are one with the cosmos. You are not separate anymore to say that, 'I got this, I got that; I became this, I became that.' So, those who

say, 'I got this, I became that' have not got anything other than ignorance." We have got to understand that very clearly Sai's kasturi... A Phantasmagoric Fragrance Forever I firmly believe there is none kinder than You, to shower Grace on me. Tell me, is this not the reason why I am at Your Lotus feet? I firmly believe You will respond quickWhen I do pray and plead. Tell me, is this not the reason why I am crying aloud for You? I firmly believe You are ever beside me To guide my steps aright. Tell me, is this not the reason why I am Yours thro' day and

night? I firmly believe You can never say 'No' Whatever I ask from You. Tell me, is this not the reason why I long for a glance from You? What have You designed for me this time? Why this dire delay to offer boons? However long You make me wait and wail I will not leave. I will be standing still Until Your loving eyes do turn to me. Prof. Narayan Kasturi - A life soaked in Divine Love Such a soul-stirring prayer, isn't it? It makes you feel someone has so perfectly penned every pang of your heart, expressing every intimate emotion of your inner self. What if we say this was actually written by your Indweller! Imagine Swami preparing a greeting card especially for you to wish you Happy New Year and then penning this pearl of a prayer inside the card with the endearing words, "My dear one! Begin the New Year with the above Prayer." And not only this, He inundates you with more love and blessings with the magic message: "Endowed with long life and sound health, surrounded by children, grandchildren and friends, keep on imbibing joy through devotion and wisdom. I bless that your days be spent in the service of Sarveshwara, the Lord of All. Spend your life in abundant peace and happiness. -

Baba." Your heart would have skipped a few beats leaping with inexplicable ecstasy, isn't it? Sounds too good to be true! But let us tell you, this is no imagination. This is exactly what Swami did for Professor Kasturi, His darling devotee, way back in 1960. And this is only half of the story. The way Swami passed on this specially crafted card to Professor Kasturi was even more exciting. The Lord remembers and surprises His beloved one The special gift of prayer in the Divine handwriting The Lord did not just hand over this poem to Professor Kasturi when he came for His blessings on the dawn of the New Year day; on the contrary, the Greeting Card came gleefully to Professor Kasturi searching for him. The Sweet Lord had sent the card through someone to be dropped in Bukkapatnam, five miles away the previous day, though the addressee was living five metres away! Recalling that momentous morning, Mr. Kasturi writes, "When the Blessing was delivered by the postman along with

other mail, the surprise, the thrill, the gratitude and the yearning to express it direct to Him, rendered me incapable of speech or movement." ---------------------- My ALL KNOWING SAI By Dr. Gayatri Raghavan An alumnus of the Anantapur campus of Sri Sathya Sai College, Dr. Gayatri received her intermediate education there during the years 1982-84. Currently, she is a practising dentist in USA. She hails from a family which came to Bhagavan's Baba's in the 1960's.

Gayatri is an active member of the Bethesda Sai Center, Maryland, USA, and also volunteers as a dentist in the Puttaparthi General Hospital every year, while her parents and grand mother (Suprapatham Kamalamma) are residents of Prashanthi Nilayam. She is also a trained Balavikas teacher and has taken classes at several centers in the Washington D.C. area. I have had the greatest fortune to experience Swami as the God, Antharyami (the omniscient indweller) numerous times. We are all very fortunate to be interacting with God in this living form. But, sometimes, being human, we take Him for granted. We forget that He is the one who brought us into this world and He writes our destiny. We are often foolish to question His presence and His influence on our lives. The Loving and Eternal Charioteer My first

interaction with Him, as my parents tell me, happened when I was two months old. We went to Bombay on a trip and my father bought a brand new car there. While we were returning to Chennai with the new car, my mother, an ardent devotee of Swami, developed the longing to see Swami on the way back. My father was reluctant to drive the new car to Parthi. He declined my mother’s suggestion, saying that the new car would break down on the unpaved roads to Parthi. Dr. Gayatri Raghavan, as a two year old, with her parents Eventually, after a great deal of persuasion by my mother, he agreed to take the trip. Ironically, as we were driving on the national highways, where the roads were paved quite well, the car rattled quite a bit and stopped near Kadri, a small town in Andhra Pradesh. Even after persistent attempts to start the car, the engine would not start. My mother was getting anxious as dusk was approaching fast. She continually prayed to Swami to help, especially since I was a newborn baby then. A truck stopped by the car and the driver enquired if my father needed any assistance to start the car. My father was initially reluctant to give the keys to a complete stranger, but given the dire situation, he could not but hand him over the keys. The driver fixed the

problem promptly and asked us where we were heading. My parents replied that we were going to Puttaparthi. To our joy the driver then willingly offered to drive us all the way to Puttaparthi as we were new to the area. It was a pleasant surprise and my father gladly asked him to take the driver’s seat. The truck driver seemed to be more than happy to help us: he abandoned his own truck on the roadway and drove all of us to Parthi! Interestingly enough, the car drove so smoothly even on the unpaved roads to Parthi, although the car had had difficulties driving on much better National Highways earlier. My father was puzzled and was proved wrong about his fears of these bad roads. The truck driver remained with us assisting us at Parthi during our stay for a day there. My mother kept asking him what would happen to his truck. His response was not to worry about the truck and he insisted that instead we enjoy Swami’s darshan. After we saw Swami, we completely forgot about the truck driver. After the darshan, as we were preparing to continue our journey to Chennai, the truck driver insisted that he would accompany us to Chitoor, a town close to Chennai. My parents agreed and he drove to that town. My father thanked him and bid him goodbye, completely forgetful of his expenses to go back to Kadri. My mother then chided my father, and asked him to find the driver and

give him a small token of our gratitude. My father searched for him, but he was no where to be found. During our next trip to Parthi, we were very fortunate to have an interview with Swami and as the interview was going on He revealed, “I am your Antharyami, the indweller. I Myself drove you here due to your love and prayers”. Not only did Swami take care of us during the entire trip, He gently proved my father’s statement wrong that the new car would not run well on the Parthi roads. Sai is the Sanathana Sarathi, the Eternal Charioteer, in our lives. The infinitely compassionate Lord can come to the rescue of His devotees anywhere and at anytime, as He is beyond the limitations of time and space. When Swami wills it, anything can happen. Can anyone ever prove Him wrong? ”I know you so well!” -

Baba Another indelible incident comes to my mind which beautifully demonstrates to us His omnipresence. When I was at Anantapur during my intermediate years, equivalent to Grade 11 and 12, I was on my study holidays at Puttaparthi, visiting my mother and grandmother there. With the exams round the corner, my mother wanted me to get Swami’s blessings. I impatiently told her, “O mother, He knows me as a child. But now that I have grown taller and look different than when I was a kid, He may not know who I am. How can He recognize and bless me?” My mother instantly responded, “Just trust me; He is going to bless you. For my sake, why don’t you just go and seek His blessings, you will then do well in your exams.” I grudgingly went to sit there at the 6th or 7th line, fairly far away from where Swami would walk by. And then, what a surprise! Swami stopped, glanced at me and talked to me in His sweet voice! “You are Gayatri, right? You are Suprabatham Kamalama’s grand daughter. I know you so well!” I was taken back, but soon composed myself and said, “Yes, Swami! May I seek your blessings for my exams?” “You will do well in the exam, don’t worry,” He said and blessed me lovingly as He walked away. I was so humbled by this experience. Just a few hours before this

incident, I told my parents that He would not recognize me, let alone bless me. He proved me wrong and blessed me in such an unexpected way. Swami is Antharyami. He is aware of our thoughts, our deeds, and our words at all times. One other occasion comes to my mind that reinforces the thought that our compassionate Lord is our constant companion. I was in the Anantapur campus of Bhagavan’s college. We heard that Swami would be visiting our college and were preparing for a cultural event to present in front of Him. It was Shankaranthi time, and in Andhra Pradesh, it is customary to build Bomma Kolu, a creative exhibit of toys and dolls during this festival. Some of my friends and I thought that we could dress up as those live dolls to present an interesting set of themes to our beloved Lord. I was one of the participants in this fancy dress display, and I dressed up with a set of

vegetables, as a “vegetable queen.” When I went to the performance room and found that everyone was in such wonderful costumes, I began to wonder if my choice was right. I thought Swami may not appreciate my ordinary looking costume. I resigned myself to fate and propped my spirits up telling myself that at least I was lucky to see Swami. Fascinating moments... ...with the lord with fancy dress on Exactly contrary to my thinking, Swami came to the room and walked directly towards me, while here I was thinking that if I get a glimpse of the Lord, I should be lucky. Instead, our loving God was so happy with the simple presentation we did, and spent so much time talking to me. He was quite excited at the costume and began describing all the vegetables I had around me. He then signaled to the photographer to take a picture of me with Him! How kind and loving our Sai is! He is truly Antharyami, the all-knowing indweller; He must have felt every thought of mine; how else can

I explain my good fortune? The Closest Companion Finally, not too long ago, in 2002, my husband was working on an assignment in Saudi Arabia. With the Iraq war looming, I was very uncomfortable and worried about him as an American citizen living in Saudi Arabia. I even suggested that he quit his job and find something else to do in the U.S. or move to India. With this separation and the stress of worrying about his safety, I continued to call on Swami for protection every day. On occasions, I even felt quite frustrated and told my husband that Swami does not care about my cries; He has come for loka-kalyanam, i.e. welfare of the world, and not just my travails. On the day we had this conversation, my father had a wonderful opportunity to get an interview with Swami. And in a pleasantly surprising way, the first thing that Swami

asked him was, “How is your first daughter? What is your son-in-law doing?” He continued to enquire about our welfare and then finally said, “Tell her that I am always with her.” Tears rolled down my eyes uncontrollably as I heard my father narrating this experience. Such motherly love and fatherly concern can only come from our beloved Lord, as He is Antharyami. I have always found Swami as my mother, father, a close relative and a friend every time I sought His help. Bhagavan is always our close companion, a Prana Sakha (soul mate), and He is all we have in this arduous travel of life. One of Swami’s inspiring quotes come to my mind, as I conclude this short compilation of my memorable experiences of Swami. “No matter where you go, always do your duty as you see it.And know that I will be there inside you, guiding you every step of the way.You are My very own, dearer than dear to Me.I will never leave you and you can never leave Me.From this point on, do not hanker after anything. Do your duty with unwavering love, seeing all as God.Have the Lord’s name on your lips always.” Dear Reader, did this article inspire you in any way? Would you like to share you feelings with us? Please write to us at h2h mentioning your name and country. Thank you for your time. DEAR BELOVED BROTHERS & SISTERS SAI RAM, Our stay in parthi was rewarding. As Swami comes for Darshans, all our eyes are focused on

Swami. His Grace and Love for devotees, He comes closer and closer to bless them and take letters and talk to few fortunate. When wait unconditionally and happly, we do not feel that we are waiting and then experience take place, All these experiences are spiritual happening and not by our doing, they just happen. While i was sitting in Veranda on chair, we saw Swami came for darshans on wheelchair, talking to someones, blessings. Bhagavan came near to me I, could hold His hand , so soft one can feel. It was His grace on New Year

day, as He knew that we will be returning to Japan to work as His instruments. How fortunate are we to be with Swami, and our good karma to see and Him in His physical form the Lord of Universe. Humble Pranaams at His Divine Lotus feet, Ram.Chugani...Japan. ................................................................................................................................ ....Light and Love Swami teaches... Part 3. Education, Science - With

Love There are innumerable stars in the sky. Imagine the distance between the Earth and stars. When the creation itself is such an infinite and indescribable phenomenon, how mighty and powerful must the Creator be! He is beyond all definition and God's creation is most wonderful and mysterious. Many describe science today as a powerful acquisition, but, science holds before humanity only a great opportunity. The duty of science is to promote love, sympathy, brotherhood and charity. By bible to enter Heaven, human must transform

into an innocent infant. To enter the heaven of science, human has to mould into a humble, unselfish seeker. This is as true as the former statement. Value-based education is not merely the gathering of scientific knowledge; it should endow human with heroism in action. It should instruct human to decide on what has to be done and how. Education must aim at enlarging the heart and awakening the latent intelligence and skills and strengthening the character. If education is devoid of 'design' students (and adults also) character, it brings disaster. It can then cause evil and wickedness. Intelligence can be found to be very high among clever thieves. So, similarly, scientific knowledge can be misused for destructive purposes. The ancients attached the highest value to good character. They considered that if character was lost, all was lost. (Today, people consider that if wealth is

lost all is lost). There are significant obligations and compulsions relating to humans' daily life and the duties which have to be discharged to the family, society, environment and nature. For these purposes and for earning a living, knowledge of the natural and social sciences and culture entwined with human values required. Albert Einstein was the greatest among the scientists. He discovered the profound truth about the relationship between matter and energy. Einstein, who was near to spiritual outlook, did not have expensive equipment, like those you have in modern laboratories, to make their researches. All that he had was a pencil, paper and a waste paper basket. He lived up to the motto: simple living and high

study. Many famous scientists 'entered' into deep state of concentration and depth of thought that they would reach to their maximum inspiration and creativity. For example, it is said, the "special theory of relativity" was postulated by Einstein in the state a deep concentration. Einstein himself has noted, "Imagination is everything; it is the preview of life's forthcoming attractions. " Time passes and present days science needs a 'mountains' of money to create the ‘clever’ machines for researches. Scientists today want more and more expensive equipments.. . All scientific investigations are based upon the

intellect. All spiritual explorations are based on the heart. (Usually scientists put their faith in machines). Science is caught up in this constant process in most cases of rejecting the old and discovering the new. In the realm of spirituality, there is nothing like old or new. It is ever full, ever-whole. But when scientist's intellect turns at the same time also to the spiritual 'wave', the collaboration with science and spirituality is possible. Many modern scientists have demonstrated a healthy spiritual outlook to the Universe, objects, processes and events in It. At present time scientists explore not only molecules and atoms, but peep what is within protons and neutrons (the core constituents of atoms) and how these tiny 'creatures' behave under various conditions and interactions. Today’s less or more spiritually oriented particle physicists search this 'ever-whole entity' and have reached quite close to this

spending an infinite amounts of money for construction the machine - Large Hardon Collider (LHC). Studying the world with a resolution a billion times finer than atomic scales, particle physicists seek a deeper understanding of the everyday world and the evolution of the Universe. It is the realm of physics that comes into view when two elementary particles smash together with a combined energy of around a trillion electron volts, (TeV) in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). LHC now being completed underneath a circle of countryside and villages a short drive from Geneva, will peer into the physics of the shortest distances and the highest

energies ever probed. The mammoth machine, after a nine-year construction period, is scheduled to begin producing its beams of particles later this year. It is the radically new phenomena from nuclear reactions (millions of electron volts) to the area trillions electron volts that particle physicists have been investigating. What lies in wait for us at the terascale? No one knows. One man declared, "I alone am one who knows everything." After some investigation, he found that there was a power greater than himself. He then declared, "I am also a Pandit." After further enquiry, he realized that there was a greater power than himself in the world and

declared, "The Pandit is one who views equally everything." Proceeding further, he came to the conclusion, "I know nothing." The entire creation is a conglomeration of subatomic particles. These may appear as particles and as waves of energy. All of them emanate from the same source of energy. Even the scientist who knows all about electrons does not seek to find the primary source of all energy - the Supreme Principle. Today's science is engaged in trying to explore the infinitesimally minutest particle in matter. Spirituality is concerned with exploring the Infinite what is vaster than the vastest. It is concerned with "expanding" the consciousness.

Scientists hope to peep to the terascale and beyond, they will hope for the first time in human history to know what we are made of and how the place where we briefly live operates at bottom. Studying the world with a resolution a billion times finer than atomic scales, particle physicists seek a deeper understanding of the everyday world and the evolution of the Universe. Significant new physics is expected to occur at these energies, such as the elusive Higgs particle and the particle that constitutes the dark matter that makes up most of the material in the Universe. (Present time many astronomical observations indicates that we live in an approximately flat universe dominated by dark matter and an unidentified form of dark energy that drives cosmic acceleration) . Elementary particles of matter such as quarks and electrons would have no mass. Physicists assumed that proton and neutron represent matter of a novel kind. (Luminous matter is made mostly of protons and neutrons in stars). /The mass of a proton (core of hydrogen atom), is only a few percent of its constituent masses. (In fact, three quarks inside proton account for not more than 2 percent of the proton’s mass.) Most of the mass arises through the original form of Albert Einstein’s famous equation, m = E/c2, from the energy stored up in confining the quarks in a tiny volume. Neutron (the companion-particle in atom's core, also with three quarks inside) is slightly more massive than the proton. In our world, a neutron sprung from a nucleus

decays into a proton, electron and antineutrino in about 15 minutes. If quark masses were to vanish, a free proton would decay into a neutron, positron and neutrino. By theses analyses physicists have reached to bizarre conclusion that hydrogen atoms could not exist at all. The lightest “nucleus” would be one neutron rather than one proton/. Different structure of atoms result in objects of different kinds like copper, gold or oxygen, which have varying utility and value. But the primary energy which manifests itself in different kinds of atoms and objects is one and the same. The Vedas indicated this

truth when they declared, "The One willed to become the Many", "The Reality is one, the wise call it by many names." If the Universe is itself the manifestation of the one primary energy, everything in it is also an expression of that energy. For instance, a wall which you see as a solid block can be seen as a vast congregation of minute particles when it is viewed through a microscope. Empty space between different particles can also be noticed. The power of Sakthi (energy) is incalculable. A small stone cast on a tumbler of water causes a ripple on the surface. A storm in the sea has the power to sink a ship. Both are manifestations of the power of particles under varying conditions. There is a difference between the appearance of objects as we observe them in daily life and their inner reality. The rising of the Sun in the East and its setting in the West are everyday experiences. But when it is noted that the Earth is a globe revolving round itself and going round the Sun, these phenomena have a different reality. Directions like East and West and North and South and the apparent motion of the Sun are seen to be mistaken. Similarly, when we are seated in a moving train, we are moving along with the train, though we may be stationary. Though the Earth is revolving at a speed of several hundred miles an hour, we are not aware of its motion at all. It is simultaneously moving in orbit round the Sun at 66,000 miles an hour, carrying with it all things on the Earth. The Earth seems firm and unmoving, while the Sun and planets and stars appear to be going round the Earth.

Though the scientific reality is one thing, we are guided by the daily experience in which the reality is different. Even the scientist who knows about the Earth's movements, uses the language of daily experience with reference to directions like East and West and the rising and setting of the Sun. The external appearance is based on the inner reality. It is the basic truth of the internal which enables us to experience the external. The basis is the power of the primal energy which is in matter. This basic truth was proclaimed in the Vedic statement:"Anoraneeyaan Mahatho maheeyaan" ("It is subtler than the subtlest and vaster than the vastest"). This means that what is subtle can become the immense. All experiences in daily life are variation in form of the

basic reality and not different from it. Experience of this basic reality will reveal how the changes in the primary energy bring about the emergence and the disappearance of material substances. In the Standard Model (the modern combination of two theories of particle physics into a single framework to describe all interactions of subatomic particles, except those due to gravity) the Higgs mechanism differentiates electromagnetism from the weak force. Experiments have tested the electroweak theory, a key element of the Standard Model, over a staggering range of distances, from the sub nuclear to the galactic. (The Standard Model requires a particle known as the Higgs boson*, or a stand-in to play its role. The Higgs, in turn, poses deep questions of its own, whose answers should be

found in the same TeV energy range). By physicists the Higgs particle - the last (?) remaining undiscovered 'piece' of our current theory of matter. After this 'last' will appear other particles more last... more, more last, and so on... Before Buddha attained Nirvana, his disciples gathered round him and asked him what stage they have reached in their spiritual journey. Buddha took out a handful of leaves from the branch of the tree under which he was sitting and said, "Children, can you reckon the leaves in all the trees in all the forests all over theEarth? What you have learnt is equal only to the handful of leaves in my palm, compared to what is to be known (that is, all the leaves in all the forests).

Physicists contemplate that an atom’s radius is inversely proportional to the electron’s mass, so if the electron has zero mass, atoms - less than a nanometer across in our world - would be infinitely big. Even if other effects gave electrons a tiny mass, atoms would be macroscopic. A world without compact atoms would be a world without chemistry and without stable composite structures like our solids and liquids. It is not the world of Atmic Reality - The Great One? All is one Atmic Reality by Swami. Vedas stated this many thousands years ago. The Atma is a synonym for Brahma, which is nothing but the Chaitanya permeating every human being. Chaitanya that is present in the human body is called "conscience" . The all-pervasive Chaitanya is called "Universal or Cosmic Consciousness" . (Reet's compilation from, Sathya Sai Speaks. Vol. 7. Namaste - Reet _...................................................................................._._,_.___ How The Beatific Sai Bewitched Me Interview with Dr. Jayalakshmi Gopinath, Part-1 [23.2 MB] This is the first part of a Radio Sai interview recorded in May 2003 with Prof. Jayalakshmi Gopinath, the

Warden and Head of the Department of English, Sri Sathya Sai University, Anantapur campus. Prof. Gopinath’s association with Bhagavan goes back to as early as 1948 when she was a little girl! An epitome of dedication, service and love at His Lotus Feet for more than half a century, in this interview Jayamma (this is how Swami calls her) shares some of her cherished memories and fascinating experiences with Dr. Rajeshwari Patel, an alumnus and currently a faculty member of Sri Sathya Sai University, Anantapur Campus. Dr. Rajeshwari Patel (RP): Sairam Professor Jayalakshmi Gopinath and welcome to Radio Sai Global Harmony. Madam, it is a pleasure to have you with us today. You have had a long association of 55 years with Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Can you take a walk down the memory lane? In the Hindu spiritual tradition, among the nine modes of devotion, one is

Shravana or ‘Listening to the Glory of God’. We would like you to open your golden casket of treasured experiences and share the spiritual treat with our listeners who have tuned into Radio Sai. Please tell our listeners a little of your early life. How old were you when you came to Bhagavan and how old was Bhagavan physically, then? Prof. Jayalakshmi

Gopinath Prof. Jayalakshmi Gopinath (Jayamma): Thank you Rajeshwari for all that you have said. I was in my early teens when I came to the Lotus Feet. I saw Him in 1947 and Swami was about 21 years, I think. Bhagavan should have been that young. RP: “Your tryst with God” - Did you sense it coming or did it happen unexpectedly? What brought you to Bhagavan? Jayamma: I cannot call it mere chance. It must have been Divine Design! Prior to his retirement, my father had settled down in Bangalore and I was then still studying. I was with my parents then and my father would go every day for a walk. And one day he met a person who told him about Bhagavan Baba. Baba was then residing in the house of Mrs. Sakkamma, the Coffee Magnet. Father himself, well I suppose, had certain occult powers. He could hypnotize and could cure certain diseases; ours was a very pious family. So my father got interested and said, “Well, let me know where He lives, give us the address, we would like to go”. That’s how father, mother and I went to Mrs. Sakkamma’s house for the first time. I am indebted to my parents for having brought me to God. RP: During your early childhood, did you ever feel a kind of seeking for God which brought you to Bhagavan? Jayamma: Yes, absolutely. It might seem very funny. As a little child, I had an idol of Sri Krishna made out of clay. I would fondle it and even take it to my bed when I slept. Mother didn’t say anything. She sort of indulged me and for a long time that attachment

to the Krishna idol was there. Apart from that, our family itself was so very devoted. They hosted the Sadhus and Sants (saints and pious people) in our house. I suppose that must have fostered in me to merely love God, not ask Him for this or that. When we saw Bhagavan Baba - I do not know how to explain - there was something that happened to me! I felt a tremendous ecstasy and my eyes filled with tears. Baba was very young at the time. Incredible Affinity with the Divine RP: Was the experience of ecstasy instant, as soon as you saw Him? Jayamma: Yes, as soon as I looked at Him! He threw a rose at me! He was very kind with my father. He took him aside and spoke to him. I suppose that day sealed the bond between Divinity and us. Since then, it

has been that way. RP: You must have visited Prashanthi Nilayam in the 1950s and 1960s several times. What was Puttaparthi like in those days? Jayamma: We were there even during the Old Mandir days, which was a very small building of rough stones. Bhagavan’s residence itself was none too enviable. And it was wilderness all around and the transformation that has taken to today’s Prashanthi Nilayam is unimaginable. RP: What was Bhagavan’s daily routine in that glorious past? You have been a direct witness to Him in many years. Jayamma: In the Old Mandir there was nothing like a direct routine. At that time we did not have Suprabhatham in the early morning. We were just a handful of devotees. As usual, there was the discipline of men on one side and women on the other. And early morning, as soon as we got up, most of us were in a state of heightened bliss, which perhaps can be related to Sri Krishna and His devotees mentioned in the Bhagavatha. It was so with me. Baba would be up early, around 5 a.m. There was no such thing like Darshan. He would be out of His room. Everybody would be

around Him and He would be moving amidst us. We were always standing near Him and looking at Him enraptured. He would play with us. During the Bhajan time, He would sing with us. Many a time, Bhagavan has sung along with me. The altar was on a platform; any devotee could go and clean it up. One little experience I can tell you from those days. We had come after we went to Mrs. Sakkamma’s house many a times for Darshan; Bhajans would be held there. Baba told my father to come to Puttaparthi. It was not Prashanthi Nilayam at that time. So once during my holidays, we thought we would make the first trip. In those days, Bhagavan would be standing right at the portico of the Mandir to receive each and every devotee, whatever time they came. And so He received us and He was very happy. At that time we were not aware that Baba would give interview to devotees. It was time for us to leave after a few days. And

before that, I was motivated to clean the altar, put the wicks in order, cut it and fill the oil in the lamp. There was a curtain which was covering the altar from the rest of the place, so nobody could see me. If I could confess, I would go and hug Shirdi Baba’s idol. And I would feel so happy. On the day of our departure, my father and mother had been called for an interview. But I didn’t know that. I was completely oblivious, busy with doing small chores at the altar. And as I was cleaning, a devotee called, “Jayamma! (that’s how Baba calls me) What is this? Your parents have gone for an interview and you didn’t go?” I went hurriedly but the door had been latched from inside! A terrible sadness overcame me. I sat in a corner and was sobbing my heart out! After a little while, I heard my father calling me, “Jaya, Jaya come, it is late; let us go.” Thinking I shouldn’t go out with a tear stained face, I

just lifted my hot tear stained face and whom do I see in front of me? Bhagavan Baba! He said, “Why are you crying?” He said it so tenderly, that tears came so profusely again! “What do you want?” He asked. At that time, I needed nothing. I said, “Swami I want your Photo.” I spoke to Him in Kannada. The materialised photograph He looked at me with such tenderness and He said, “You want a Photo? If you put the photo in water, it gets dissolved; if you throw it into fire, it gets burnt to ashes; if you tear it, it becomes fragmented. Why do you want a photo? Keep Me in your heart.” I was thrilled! Nevertheless, He materialized a small photograph and gave it to me. It is with me even today. He listened to my small prayer. That was the first one. “Singing for the Lord” RP: Can you share with our listeners some more

experiences you have with Baba. Jayamma: He is the unchangeable one. It is just circumstances have changed. And the devotees now are coming in huge numbers. There are so many things that Baba has taken upon Himself. There in the Old Mandir, it was entirely a personal contact between God and the devotees. It was just a state of absolute enchantment. That is what I could call it. Another instance comes to my mind from the old days, when we used to come to Puttaparthi. My mother had left for Delhi because my second older sister was about to deliver. Father and I were at home in Bangalore. Father was also crazy about Bhagavan. One day my father said, “Let us go to Puttaparthi.” And I was overjoyed to make the journey. We alighted and Baba came to the portico and took us inside. In front of the altar, Baba

just stopped. Naturally, Father and I stood there. Then, Baba looked at me and said, “Sing”. I was very nervous to sing in His presence. Baba encouraged me and asked me to sing. There were a few devotees and as I was singing, I had an amazing experience. There were life-size photographs of Shirdi Baba and Sathya Sai Baba in the altar. The garlands were right from the toe to the head. First Shirdi

Baba’s garlands started to sway and it gained momentum. It swayed, and swayed so forcibly that all the garlands snapped and fell down while I was singing. My hair stood on end! Baba looked at me and said, “Sing another song”. I sang a Meerabai Bhajan. He would usually ask me to sing Purandara Dasa’s Kirtans and Meera Bhajans. As I started the next song, the garlands on our Baba’s picture started swaying and gaining momentum; then they snapped and fell down too. Baba looked at me very meaningfully. I wanted to stop but He asked me to sing. I sang a third song and the garlands around the silver idol of Shirdi Baba, slowly rolled down. They didn’t snap this time! That was the end of that experience. I knew Baba was very happy. As far as I was concerned, I was in the heaven of delight. A Prized

Gift RP: I remember you telling us that you won the first prize in the music competition organized by Bhagavan in the Old Mandir; can you narrate that story? Jayamma: This was something impromptu; it came all of a sudden. During that trip, I came first with a devotee and my parents were to follow. As soon as I alighted, they told me that a music competition was being conducted by Bhagavan Baba. I was interested to hear this, but then immediately one person came running to me and said, “Swami is calling you.” I was very nervous to sing in the presence of Bhagavan. The new Mandir was a little different then; it was not so polished. Of course the altar had the life-size pictures of Bhagavan and where the chariot is now, there Bhagavan was sitting as the judge. Men and women on

either side - whom He had asked to sing - had to sit there and sing through the mike. So after a few had sung, both men and women, He called me. I always used to be a little fearful when Baba called me. He asked me to sit down, named a few Meera Bhajans and asked me to sing. I sang the song and then there were a few more participants to go. At the end of it all, Baba announced that I got the first prize, which I never expected. He gave me a lovely silver cup and saucer tinted with gold inside. I have it with me even today. He gave it to me and said, “Jayamma, drink milk with this.” The Divine Bondage: Grandfather and his Divine Grandson RP: Were you fortunate to see Swami’s grandfather? The Lord and His very own grandfather Jayamma: Yes, I have seen His Grandfather. Then the grandfather must have been 105 years old (this was when He used to come occasionally to the Old Mandir), the new Mandir wasn’t there then. He was thin and very tall. He had a personality of his own, even at that age, as if he is one of the chief persons in the village. It was a very

beautiful sight to see: He would come with a stick and somebody would help him and then they would put a chair in the outside enclosure where the altar was. He would sit and wait for the Divine Grandson. Swami would come so quickly from His room as if He was rushing forth to meet the human grandfather and He would go to him, clasp his hands and I have seen the grandfather literally hugging Him. It was a wonderful sight. RP: Bhagavan has said in some private discourses that His Grandfather was the only person who really recognized His Divinity. Jayamma: Absolutely, we could see this interaction. There was definitely a Divine bondage between the grandfather and the grand-son. Medallions from Vibhuti: “A Miracle I witnessed” Jayamma: In those days during Dasara and Swami’s birthday, people would take a procession of Swami in a flower bedecked palanquin. And Swami gave Darshan of the Avatars to so many devotees. Once, I saw that when Baba got off the Palanquin, once the procession returned to the Old Mandir, He just shook His robes and from His robes, came plentiful vibhuti! It came out in flakes and it spread to such a distance that people started gathering it. Right on His forehead, there would be thick flakes of vibhuti. When we returned from the procession, He would take some flowers and throw the petals of the flowers with both His Hands. They would get transformed into medallions! I was a witness to it! My mother got one such medallion, which was very significant for us. My father’s name was Keshav Vittal; he was called Vittal Rao. On one

side of the medallion was Bhagavan Baba’s image and on the other side was of Lord Panduranga Vittal. RP: Each medallion had a different deity? Jayamma: Yes, each one had a different deity! RP: This is a wonderful story. Please tell us one more of your

precious experiences which speaks of Bhagavan’s Glory. Jayamma: Let me share two from quite a few. Mrs. Sakkamma, was very devoted to Swami. She looked after Him like her own son. She was a pure soul and He too loved her very much. Earlier, Sakkamma had lot of faith in my father, so she used to tell him, “This small Old Mandir for Swami is very cramped.” It was a crude stone building. Baba’s room was so small; He didn’t even have an attached bathroom. There was no privacy at all for Baba. It was a sad thing. She said, “Why not we put an effort, collect some contribution and build a Mandir for Bhagavan?” That is how it started. Father took it up and some people contributed. One amongst them, at that time, was this very rich merchant, Sri Thiruvenkatam Shetty. That’s how the new Mandir was opened in 1950. The Divine Declaration: “Everything is in My Hands” RP: What did Bhagavan say to you about His life and Mission? Did He say anything then? Jayamma: My uncle Dr. Prasanna Simha Rao, who was the Chief Surgeon in the Victoria Hospital, was a devotee. One day in 1952, he and my aunt said they would like to have Baba’s Darshan. I said, “I will go with them”. So they took me with them. This incident is something that made an indelible mark in my mind, I can never forget it! The New Mandir was plain. It didn’t have all the curves and the embellishments. Baba was in the portico, the front verandah that still remains, at that time it wasn’t done up so well; it was just cement. Baba had come down and was standing in that verandah. He gave an interview to my uncle and aunt, but didn’t call me for the interview. There were some others and devotees were so happy that the new Mandir had come up. Some of them expressed to Swami, “How beautiful this Mandir is! Earlier, some devotees cast some aspersions and they had said, ‘This Mandir’s wall would not come up beyond one foot’. It was such arrogance

they had before the construction! Swami, how stupid and ignorant they are, what a beautiful Mandir has come up!” Swami then made a wonderful declaration. The whole world should know about it. He was standing there and then He became very solemn. Sometimes there is such a change between the Baba who plays with us and talks with us, and the Baba who becomes absolutely Divinity Personified and pulls Himself to that Majesty. That look was on Swami’s face! There was a far off aloofness in His eyes. He said, “Let people talk. They do not know. I just have to clap My hands, and a whole Mandir will come up. Everything is in these Hands!” That declaration He made so loudly, I suppose it went home to all of us. It sort of, made our hair stand up. Just imagine - He doesn’t need us! We think we are doing something, but He is getting it done by us to

give us that fulfillment, that’s all! To get us the satisfaction that we have contributed! As He said that, He went on repeating, “I have everything, everything is in My Hands!” Somehow He felt detached from those of us who were standing there and slowly walked off. He climbed the steps and went to His room. It made a tremendous impression upon me. “Where am I?” RP: Once, many years ago, you were asked by Bhagavan to translate for an interview that Bhagavan gave to Mr. Howard Murphet. After you returned to Anantapur, you shared with the students - I was a student then and remember this - some of the profound Truths uttered by Bhagavan during the interview. Do you remember some of them? Jayamma: Sure! That was

another incident where the small interview room, at that moment, lost its contour. It became something as vast as space, because of the things that Swami said. Mr. Murphet had asked this question. “Swami, You incarnated as Shirdi Baba. Now You are the reincarnation of that deity, eight years later. Swami, where were You during this short span of eight years?” Swami said, “Where was I? I permeated the whole Universe! There is no single place for Me, I was the Whole Universe.” Thus He uttered with such solemnity, I staggered with this answer. This went on. This is one of the most important things. CHINNA KATHA- A Little Story from Bhagavan HOW TO DEAL WITH A BAD HABIT To access all the previous 'Chinna Katha' stories, please One man got into

the habit of eating opium. It was not possible for him to control this habit. He was always in a kind of coma. A saintly person visited his city and was offering advice and comfort to many. The opium-eater also sought the advice of the saint. The saint said that his health was deteriorating and that he should give up eating opium. At this, the opium addict said that it was not possible for him to give it up. He requested the saint to give him some advice. The saint asked him how much of opium he used to take every day and was shown a certain lump as the quantity being taken every day. The saint got a piece of chalk, equal to the lump of opium and told him that he may continue eating opium but should not take more than the weight of the chalk each day. The opium eater was quite happy but he was also told that every day he must write “OM” three

times on a blackboard with that chalk. In this manner, the chalk was reduced in size every day and so the amount of opium which the person was eating also got reduced gradually and ultimately this habit was removed. - Baba - Illustrations: Ms Vidya, Kuwait ..................................................................................................... .................................................................
