OUR CHILDREN(Chapter 23) We

must raise our children in such a way that from early childhood they

develop this divine connection with the Lord. Parents are custodians

not owners of their children. They belong to the Lord and are His life

and blood. He will guide, mold and make them His very own and as such,

they have the right to a great deal of leniency providing they take to

this path of love. We are entrusted with this incredible duty,

responsibility to bring up our children in a manner that will please

God, in a manner that will make Him proud. Yet all too often we bring

up our children as images of ourselves and we want them to do what

pleases us rather than what pleases the Lord. At times, we even see the

Lord as a threat and competitor for our child's affections. If only we

ourselves could turn to the Lord and in turn make our children lead

such lives also. At an early age, it is so much easier to develop this

love, to acquire this divine guidance, this divine feeling for the Lord. From

adults, He seeks so much more in the way of faith, confidence and love,

which must spring from the heart but with children, merely the love

will suffice. Love of parents and a stable home helps a child to avoid

vagrancy and drugs. They can proceed so much faster and quicker in this

path and achieve in childhood, at a young age, what we are yet

struggling to attain. Every

parent on this earth, everyone responsible for another has a duty to

guide their charge on this path of love. Everyone in charge of another

should teach, inculcate only this love for God and instill all the

principles and values of right living, right conduct and right action

and this love of God. Where there is love of God, all disciplines and

values will emerge from the heart by themselves as naturally as a

flower turns towards the sun. It is the one and only way. Loving God is

the only way to easily assimilate all the other teachings; to

assimilate all of the Lord's advices. Once on the path of love,

everything else falls into place by itself. It

is not needed for children to learn so much these days. It is not

necessary because we can have a computer. If we know the code, we can

get access to anything and everything. Love cannot be obtained from a

computer. What we need to teach children today is to think for

themselves, to have intelligence, to be able to use information

correctly, to apply and make use of information. But is that all we

want? No, what is the point of being full of knowledge, full of

intelligence, but no peace. What is the point of being rich and

powerful, when there is no happiness in life? It is worthless. Our life

must be full of peace and joy, happiness and love. If we can have that,

then everything else will have meaning. If we have a lot of knowledge

and we go and take advantage of other people, we have no love in our

heart. That is worthless. So we want children to grow full of love,

full of sacrifice, so that they can serve humanity. We

must tell children that it is easy to do good, to do bad is very

difficult. Now when we say that to do good is easy, it also means that

to control our emotions is easy because it is doing good. It is easy to

control our anger. Take, for example, a big house. When the sun is not

there then the house is dark, the surroundings are dark. But when the

sun comes up, the darkness disappears. The sun doesn't have to drive

away the darkness, the sun doesn't have to fight the darkness, not at

all, it simply appears and darkness disappears. So, in the same way,

the darkness within ourselves, that is the anger, hatred, desires,

jealousy and envy, that is the emotion that we have to learn to

control. That is the darkness within ourselves. Nature

shows us, when there is light, darkness cannot appear. All we need to

do is to bring about light within our heart. What is that light within

our heart? It is love, it is peace, see good, do good, hear good, say

good, think good, that is the way to live, that is the path to God.

That is the light that we bring within our own hearts. Now, when we

bring in all these things into our hearts, it becomes light. When we

have love in our heart, how can we be angry with anyone? It's

impossible. How can we be envious if we have love? When we have love in

our heart, anger cannot coexist. Light and darkness cannot be together.

That is the light that can dispel the negative emotions. When we do not

have anger, when we do not have hatred, jealousy, envy, attachment,

then the result is peace. We

must teach children to raise this conscious mind upwards all the time.

To do this, they should see good, do good, hear good, think good all

the time. This will control the subconscious mind, bring about peace,

so there will be no anger, hatred, envy or jealousy, automatically the

conscious mind is raised upwards. Then we are in contact with God. We

can win His love. Then

we get to know what is the truth, the truth of the universe, the truth

about everything, the real truth, the truth that does not change. This

is how we can obtain this truth, to understand about the purpose of our

life, to understand about ourselves and who we are. To acquire this

love and truth is really the purpose of our life. By doing so, we are

far away from our emotions, there will be no anger or hatred and we

will have peace, joy, contentment and love. There

is something that can help us raise that conscious level in children

very easily. And that is the love energy. It has been found that if

children lack love, they suffer. The children who lack love from

parents or children have been abandoned by parents, they suffer. The

morality rate for children who are orphans is very high. It is

important that we hold the children, talk to the children, give love to

children. They become normal children. So love is very important. When

we receive love, all our problems disappear, automatically we get

peace, automatically our actions become right; automatically the

conscious mind is raised upwards. Therefore, we must teach children to

develop love and to give love. By having love, we attract love, we

attract the same energy, by radiating our love throughout the world,

the world will fill us with love. So draw this energy towards you and

automatically the conscious mind is raised upwards to great heights. The

prime objective is to further a child's ability to look within, to find

its own source, realize its own divinity by living correctly with

humility. This cannot be achieved by indoctrination or pressure but

through teaching by example, by heart to heart language, whereby the

child is made aware of something precious already in its possession. A

child is always looking for exemplars. Always keep in mind that science

without humanity, education without character, politics without

principles and commerce without morality is useless and positively
