Service - A Gift of Love - Part 02 Sevadal The name Dal that you bear has great significance. ‘Dal’ means a petal. The petals of a flower emanate from the central pericarp. Each petal draws its strength, sustenance, colour, fragrance and charm from the pericarp. Detached from the pericarp, the petal cannot survive. That attachment and that affection can be secured when the petal clings to the ideals of Sai Seva without the idea of self, is the very first step in the spiritual progress of

man Seva saves you from the agony you experience when another suffers; It broadens your vision, widens awareness and deepens your compassion. All waves are on the same Sea and from the Sea, Seva teaches you to be firm in this knowledge. Seva is the worship you offer to God in the heart of everyone. Seva or Service must be directed towards the removal of physical distress, the alleviation of mental agony and he fulfillment of spiritual yearning. Forget all else and stick to the orders that I give. I want only to initiate you into spiritual path of Seva and Love. Do not be shamed that you have been asked to

watch the heap of sandals or carry water atop to the thirsty, or stand at the gate. The privilege and pleasure consist in the use to which you have put your skill and time to help others. Let me tell you, serving those who serve Me gives Me as much satisfaction as directly serving me. Serving any one is serving Me, for I am in all What is Seva Or Service? Is it timely help rendered to others in times of need? That is not service. You have to forgo the ego and posses the instinct. You have to express compassion and then participate in service. Do you have the feeling that you are serving

others? No. You are developing your own good qualities within, and you are fostering your own good nature. Seva is the primary means through which the heart is purified The day when you manifest pure feelings in your heart, plant firm faith in the Divine principle in your thoughts and cultivate an unselfish feeling to serve others, that day deserves to be celebrated as the real birthday. Seva can give you the experience of the omnipresence of God. Efforts to

serve must spring from the agony and suffering of others, and service must be a genuine effort to get rid of that anguish. There is another point to remember. Do not worry about the result; help as much as you can, as efficiently as you can, as silently as you can, as lovingly as you can and leave the rest to God, who gave you the chance to serve. You may not get a chance to participate in some gigantic scheme of service through which millions may benefit, but you can lift a lame lamp over a stile or lead a blind child across a busy road. That too is an act of worship. To help the helpless is the only way to please Him. Continued……Seva is twice blessed
