HOW TO LOVE GOD(Chapter 5)Man craves to see God, feel God, touch God, speak to God. He goes on pilgrimages, reads scriptures, carries out rituals but God cannot be reached by

the mind or described by the word. When this longing intensifies like a cool breeze over a desert, the vapor condenses and the down pour of rain descends for the parched

hearts of man. Out of compassion and affection for mankind, God incarnates as with some of the great masters of the past, Jesus, Zoroaster, Krishna and Buddha; and it is the most wonderful thing. To touch and feel, to

relate to Him as a friend, as a disciple to a master, as a father to a son, as a mother to her child, any human relationship, all human relationships find

their source to Him.It is only your yearning and

seeking and the implicit conviction that God can be attained in a personal manner that will open the doors to His heart and win for you the key to that blessed door. Love is THE power to use. The power of love has exactly the same effect as meditation, yet meditation without love will not bring you intimacy with God; will not bring you that sheer delight of His personal company. Unless you cultivate love, forbearance, humility, faith and reverence, how can

it be possible to win God's love? God is love and can be won only through the cultivation and exercise of love.How do we love a being that does not have a form? How do we love an entity that is not concretely before one, visible? How can we love something we don't understand? We can see the people we

love, our parents, children and friends, but we cannot see God. How to generate love, create love, a physical feeling, a loving emotion for this God. How can we have feeling for a being that is as thin as air, subtler than space, invisible? The answer is to give Him a form - imagine a form, envision a form. Concretise Him either in physical or subtle forms. Choose and visualize

a form you prefer and concentrate upon that one form only. To love the formless is near impossible but give God a visual appearance, a physical representation and one can generate this love. Look at, see the form and think of the form, imagine the form, reflect on the form. Observe each feature of the face, hands, feet and hair - this is how to create love. Soon that form will appear more beautiful and radiant, the very form of beauty itself. Develop self-confidence. Then, love will follow. It will come naturally, from within. In this way, the love will be

pure.The Lord is not a myth; He is not an invisible entity. He is living here and now. He is accessible here and now. He is love total and complete. Without Him, there is only loneliness. When there is separation from Him, there is only unhappiness. Even though surrounded by love and caring and the usual

joviality, one can be shrouded in doom and gloom. The remedy is always within your own hands; seek the Lord within. Seek the Lord and seek His companionship again and again

until you can never be separated from Him. Like milk and water, you become one in total union with Him. Once milk and water merge, it can never be separated; that is what we must aim for.Leaving everything to His will is the highest for of love. Surrendering everything to the divine with no thoughts, longings, wishes, needs or

wants, just Him. It is the fundamental principle of attaining God, of attaining the divine key. The putting into practice of all these principles can be stated in one very simple word 'acceptance'. Accept what is around you; accept what happens as the divine will, for truly, it is so. We start by converting all our ordinary actions into good actions. When we are interested in the benefit of others, it is only then we relinquish any attachment. We see everything as His doing and let Him assign the rewards as He sees fit. If the results turn out good, wonderful! If they don't turn out good, no blame; we have done our best. We have done everything as prompted by the inner guide. And we do everything we do to the limits of our human capacity for excellence and perfection, with full

concentration and compassion, but with total indifference to the results; and yet we remain totally unconcerned about how it turns out. The way to do that is to offer it all to the Lord. We let Him manage the world. We let Him take care of the results.When all our actions are an offering to the Lord, actions are no

longer worldly actions. Then the Lord is involved in all we do and work becomes worship. Our duty becomes a yoga, a means for union with the divine. Then our actions and our whole lives will have been elevated and become sanctified. And so, we fill our lives, our day-to-day movements with Him. Everything we do becomes spiritualized because the Lord is involved in our thoughts, in our actions and in our words. Well, when we, in this manner, are conscious of the Lord in everything that we do, then we begin to see the Lord everywhere. The Lord becomes part of our on-going moment to moment awareness. Then, just as the bud blossoms into the flower and the flower transforms into the fruit, that love becomes one pointed love. Then, for us, wherever we turn, there is only the Lord. Therefore, try to accept your lot in life but by all means pray for change. Accept the people that you have been sent to earth with without reserve and everything lies at your feet. Literally, the world is yours. The absence of likes and dislikes, acceptance and love denotes divinity. Do what is necessary in your life. Do your duty, do what you are expected to do and live without any thoughts. Do not think that this is good, this is not good, just do, that is all, and you will attain proximity to Him. This is what is called the evolvement of the human to the divine. Man has risen from dust to rock, from rock to plant forms, from vegetation to

animal and from animal to human. Now, He must aim for the angelic, the divine ever higher and higher. Evolution is the name of the game. Man - desire = God, God + desire = man.Live this life as if it were your last. That means one pointed

sincere yearning for the Lord. It means filling yourself with the virtues that please the Lord. The universe is yours, the Lord is yours for the asking, but at this stage,

you will no longer 'want'. One basic principle is that whatever you offer to the Lord rebounds and comes back to you - so do not offer Him anger or the negative emotions of frustrations and insincerity, do not offer Him your bad actions. Offer Him only your love from a purified heart and see what miracles abound around you. Offer Him your heart and mind cleansed. Offer Him yourself, that is enough.Be equal minded. Be satisfied with what you have. Be happy! God is in all beings. Be happy with what you have. Make that your renunciation. Do not covet anyone's wealth. Be content with what you have. Do not be desiring anything outside.

Do not run after the good things or push away the bad things. The secret of happiness is not in doing what you like but in liking what you have to do. Duty without love is deplorable. Duty with love is desirable but love without duty is divine. These are great truths expounded by the Lord Himself.You can earn the gift of grace, of continuous contact with Him forever if only you will attempt, if only you will try. The secret of this lies in the trying, the secret of trying is to begin to live everyday life in love and communion with God. And you will find the feeling that emerges is unique, one of almost constant bliss. In every thought, word and act, you should seek His approval. In some way, He will voice it and let you know whether He approves or disapproves. Prayer, constant communication and continuous monologue that will soon become dialogue. Ask Him, beg Him to take over your senses, your heart and your mind so completely that there is no you but only He remains. As this is practiced, as time goes by, the attachment to the world, the attachment to the material, the attachment to the physical will slowly disperse, growing weaker and weaker as the bond to the Lord grows stronger and stronger and you will become more in tune and at one with Him.To cultivate love for God, one needs no scholarship, wealth, riches nor rigorous austerity. The grace of the Lord is as the ocean, vast and limitless. Anytime of the day or night, He waits for us. He can look after you as if you are the only person in the world and as if He exists only for you, so personal, close and intimate. To win the Lord's love and heart, nothing is required except intense love and devotion. The love that cannot live without the beloved. The love that yearns for and seeks Him with single minded thirst

and desire, He being the only one, the only love and beloved. No knowledge or learning is required, no austerities, disciplines, rituals, contortions or qualifications are necessary, nothing but a pure humble heart with an all consuming love which burns within ceaselessly in the inner chamber of the heart manifesting as tears of joy, and at times, as tears of distress at His distance. This golden rope, this thread of love will capture the Lord and bring Him to you, in fact, chain Him to you. Not only will

you never be parted from Him, but He will never seek to sunder or escape this enticing bond.
