Sairam,

With gurupoornima on 7th of July there will be prayers, parayanas and other activities world wide . Before we embark on this task on Baba's inspiration I am making a humble attempt here to focus on the significance of doing parayana or teachings of Baba. We seem to be digging our heels deeper into wealth and materialism with every passing day. To progress and evolve spiritually one must step out of the box of materialism. This move happens only when one understands the significance of Baba's teachings as mentioned in Satcharita. God does not show discrimination neither is He swayed by the riches and gifts offered. What God seeks is is pure love. In chapter 4 of Satcharita, Hemadpant describes the personality of Baba “The rich or poor people were the same to Him. He did not know or care for honour or dishonour. He was the Lord of all beings.” Would such master be moved by the riches of this world?

Baba cautioned “..Do not be deluded by worldly honor. The form of the Deity should be firmly fixed in the mind. Let all the senses and mind be ever devoted to the worship of the Lord, let there be no attraction for any other thing; fix the mind in remembering Me always, so that it will not wander elsewhere, towards body, wealth and home. Then it will be calm, peaceful and care-free. This is the sign of the mind, being well engaged in good company. If the mind is vagrant, it cannot be called well-merged." (Chapter 6 Satcharita).

As guru Dakshina to Baba let us reflect on Baba’s teachings when doing our next parayana. To thank Baba for the mercies He bestowed on us we need not make expensive gifts to Baba. Giving expensive gifts and letting world know of our act is making a show of our spirituality. When we stop making a show of our spirituality and lead a simple life and help others, Baba showers His grace upon us. Let us be honest, we cannot please everybody we meet even if we were to sacrifice all our wealth or life, but when we make Baba happy by serving at least one person by praying for them, donate very small amount or give a meal to a hungry child by keeping their dignity, Baba is pleased. When Baba is pleased He returns what we give Him in many folds. Earning the grace of God is the biggest wealth.

Every small gesture of service offered with humbleness and humility to the needy pleases Baba more than a pompous show of wealth which is a waste. Let us think of Baba when we eat, embarking on a task, discharging our duty, and talk to Him as we would to a parent living with us. A humble request, let us ponder and analyse our acts and seek Baba’s blessings to guide us in the right path to progress and evolve spiritually. We have crossed the first step towards the spiritual progress by praying for one other. Baba will surely listen to our prayers. Let us remember to thank Him and show our gratitude to Baba by helping others. Let us remember that when we have the urge to show gratitude to Baba let us feed the needy or do a service in aged care facility which is equal to serving Baba. When you want to give money, then buy food vouchers to feed the poor at the temples. Give warm clothing to the poor, organise feeding the orphans and those in need. This is the actual way of serving Baba.

Baba spelled this our explicitly in Chapter 32 of Satcharita "..After seeing my cleverness, the employer loved me, praised me and honoured me with a full dress, a turban for the head and a shell a for the body, etc. I kept this dress intact withoutusing it. I thought that what a man might give does not last long and it is always imperfect. But what My Sircar (God) gives, lasts to the end of time. No other gift from any man can be compared to His. My Sircar says "Take, take," but everybody comes to me and says 'Give, give.' Nobody attends carefully to the meaning of what I say. My Sircar's treasury (spiritual wealth) is full, it is overflowing. I say, "Dig out and take away this wealth in cartloads, the blessed son of a true mother should fill himself with this wealth."

This is not intended to show disrespect to anybody - this is my interpretation of Baba's message to us through Satcharita, and it is His inspiration that prompted me to share my feelings with you. Any faults in this message are mine and seek Baba's forgiveness. I sincerely urge you to reflect on this and when reading the Satcharita in our next parayana.
