Guest guest
I’ve always been a private person. Even when I was little, I never had more than one or two friends. I liked being alone and never ever felt lonely or bored. I always had my thoughts and books for company, and if I tired of these mind activities, I liked to draw and paint or dream. So whenever I heard Swami discoursing about Satsang, I always wriggled uncomfortably in my seat. Sri Ramakrishna stressed about always being in good company. Swami follows it up with, “Show me your company and I shall tell you who you areâ€. Jesus had said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there.†And then there’s Adi Shankara’s famous quote, that Swami uses over and over again – Satsangatye Nissangatyam, Nissangatye Nirmohatvam Nirmohatve Nischlatattwam, Nischalatattwe Jeevanmukti But whenever I go to temples, I don’t exactly feel like I’m in a Satsang. Even though there are pujas going on, they always seem like social grounds, where people are chatting, friends are catching up, boys checking out girls, women sizing up other women’s outfits. The few times I go, I can’t seem to concentrate on God, I feel so out of place amidst all that activity. So I stopped altogether. Since I’ve signed up to Swami’s newsgroups about a year ago, I feel like I’m in good company. For a person like me, who if not exactly anti-social, but still uncomfortable in social situations, this is a perfect setting – an online Satsang community that I can plug into and feel at home among friends. The conversations are solely centered around God, and cuts out all the small talk – they are deep and meaningful and heartfelt. Nobody cares or worries about looks and clothes. There’s no gossip or loud laughter. There are no judgments – only love and prayer. This Satsang is as comfortable as being at home, because I am at home. And like a true Satsang, I get support, I get to share my stories, listen to other people’s experiences, learn, think and pray. I thank Swami everyday for guiding me here. Thank you all for being my Sai Satsang family!
