Guest guest
SAIRAM Anjanaji, Let us view Bhajan sessions as an appointment session for us with Swamy. We should feel the prescence of Swamy in the Bhajan hall or room. More than rules and regulations it is the discipline to be observed at Bhajan sessions, in singing , seating etc. that is important ,in my humble opinion. Normally, in Public Bhajans only singers with P and P+ Grade only are allowed to sing. Where adequate number of singers of above grades are not available, singers with U grade are also permitted to sing in Public Bhajans. Those who have been found fit 'only to give chorus' (C Grade) should never attempt to lead Bhajans either in Residential or Public Bhajans. Again, only those who are gifted with a good voice and who have received adequate training in singing Bhajans under a Bhajan Guru and have been cleared by the Guru as eligible for singing should lead Bhajans. Devotees who can not sing the individual Bhajan selected by them for singing in a predetermined Sruti or Patti from beginning to end should not lead Bhajans but can only give chorus. In other words, those who have no musical sense, should refrain from leading Bhajans. Swamy attaches more importance to giving of chorus than leading Bhajans. Leading of Bhajan should not be viewed as an opportunity to parade one`s singing capabilities. Lead singers should not sing lengthy Bhajans nor a single line be repeated more than two times in medium speed and once only in fast singing. Simple Namavalis should be sung so that maximum number of people can give chorus. Sucees of leading a Bhajan lies in the quality of the chorus that follows. Normally, all lead Bhajan singers are required to take their position at least 5 minutes before chanting of 3 Omkars. Those singers who attend Bhajan sessions late, ie., after chanting of 3 Omkars should refrain from leading Bhajans. They should occupy seats at the back without disturbing those who attended in time. Seating arrangements at Bhajan sessions should be on 'first come first seated basis'. Separate seating arrangements have to be made for Gents and ladies. Sufficient gap should be left between ladies and Gents. No gaps should be left in between individual male and female Bhajan singers for accommodating late comers . In other words, no reservation of seat can be made for late attenders. The above are some of the rules and regulations that come to my mind. If you have any specific queries you are welcome to raise them sequentially. I shall attempt to clarify them to the best of my understanding.
