By way of introduction only,the Mritunjaya Mantra appears in " Namakam " or " Srirudra Prasnam " portion of YajurVeda.

The Text of the Mantra as written in English script is as follows:-

 

" Tryambakam Yajaamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam

Urvarukamiva Bandhanaan Mrityor Muksheeya Maa Amritaat " .

 

For correct chanting of the Mantra with right intonations(swaras),one is required to get formal initiation from a competent Veda Guru. Help of Casettes,CDs or other devices of electronic media is not adequate.

The meaning of this mantra is somewhat like this:-

" O Omniscient Divinity! We adore You. O Lord! Full of excellent fragrance,you are the norisher and the sustainer of all life. As the cucumber is freed from the stem when it is ripe, so too, liberate us from both death and fear of death. Grant us the nectar of immortality "

 

Word by word meaning of the Mantra is as follows:-

Tryambakam= one with 3 eyes. The Third Eye is the eye of Omniscience and infinite Knowledge.

Yajamahe=we meditate, we adore, we revere

sugandhim=full of precious fragrance-the fragrance of unlimited Love.

Pushtivardhanam=who nourishes and sustains all living beings at all levels

urvarukamiva bandhanaan= Just as a ripe cucumber drops off the plant,effortlessly,so to, may I be freed of my bondage when I am ready.

Mrityor muksheeya= O Lord! Deliver me from physical death and death in the form of ignorance and lack of devotion and love.

Maam Amritaat= Grant me the nectar of immortality.

 

The benefits of chanting the Mrityunjaya Mantram are as follows:-

1.The mantra helps to overcome all types of fear.

2.It grants good health, and Holistic growth and

3.Correct chanting of this mantra protects one from accidents,bestows long life, health,wealth,peace,prosperity and fulfilment.

4.The Mantra possess curative effect on diseases declared incurable.

5.Above all, freedom from fear of death,but not death as such.

 

Death, as we all know is inescapable. Nevertheless all of us are afraid of death. What is the exact fear in death? It is fear of what will happen after death, fear of the unknown and fear of losing one`s hard-earned possessions and fear of leaving one`s dear and near ones. Swamy saya, " Death is not a deploreable event;it is the journey`s end--the owner gettig out of the car when the time is out and the goal is reached. "

 

The Prayer,in effect, means, " O God, when I leave this world, let me drop effortlessly and joyfully like a fully ripe fruit " It is a prayer for effortless or painless death (Anaayaasa Maranam). By chanting this Mantra one will escape from untimely death.

Bhajans and Speeches and Video of Swami's darshans. All is His Grace and He plans and we as His instruments play our part. What a wonderful start to the New Year it has been in Prasanthi Nilayam at Swami's Divine Lotus Feet. A Wonderful New Year Celebrations with the Sathya Sai Alumni Students followed by the Most Spectacular Sports and Cultural Meet Performance by Swami's Students and the Sankranthi Celebrations. Swami always says that "Iam always the same, but people change", Swami looks wonderful always but it is we who waver.

 

In other parts of the world, the Devastation in Haiti was terrible, but the Lord has a reason for everything. It is His way of teaching us something in grave Disasters. Let us pray for the people there.

 

I had put up a mail some time back for some help for a Dear Sai Brother Ramesh Kumar, Please mail if anyone in interested in sending any Financial help however small it maybe in helping a very Dear Sai Brother who is suffering a lot in every sense. We will be grateful in everyway.

 

Also the pressures of my job are making it very difficult to send mails everyday, but i will try my very best to mail Swami's Messages everyday.

 

Praying to Swami that the rest of the year and the future in general gives everyone all the happiness and His Grace and Blessings are with each and everyone of our Dear Sai Brothers and Sisters.
