It is very auspicious for all our Dear Sai Sisters to do the Sravana Mangala Gowri Vratam on all Tuesdays and the Varalakshmi Vratam on all Fridays in this very holy and auspicious month of Sravana which is the birth star of Lord Venkateswara Garuda Jayanthi is the birthday of Garuda the Vahana of Lord Maha Vishnu. It falls on Swathi Nakshatra in the Tamil month of Adi (July-Aug) that is July 29, 2009 which is today.

Garuda is said to remove all types of poisonous elements in one's body and hence one can pray to Garuda to lead a safe life, free from the ills of poisonous creatures & snakes.

It is said that one should perform Pooja for Garuda at the famous Shrine at Nachiarkoil Nachiarkoil is situated about 10 kms from Kumbakonam in Tanjore District in Tamilnadu. There are 9 cobras on the body of Lord Garuda. It is believed that people will be relieved of "Navagraha doshams" if they offer prayers and pujas to Kal Garudan.

Lord Garuda in this famous temple is made of stone and hence called "Kal Garuda" (kal in Tamil, means stone). The famous Nachiarkoil shrine is also one of the 108 "Divya Desams" (holy shrines) of Lord Vishnu. Garuda is present next to the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Vishnu in this temple, unlike in most of the Vishnu Temples where He faces the main shrine..
