It is my understanding that red coral is endangered and therefore it is illegal

to take it from the ocean. I don't know if you can tell if it is genuine by

looking, and as far as I know the dye would not affect the feel or the sound.

Most red coral is dyed; therefore if you put your coral in the sun and it fades,

it is dyed. I have seen some genuine red coral from Australia, but it was

orange, and cost $850 US a 16 " strand. Supposedly dying stones does not affect

their healing energy. You can also substitute carnelian, or combine the coral

you have with carnelian. Both stones represent the passion of Mars.

RBSC : Identify genuine Red Coral

I have come in possession of a 3 inch long Red Coral from a

Chinese source. I want to verify its authenticity and asked Rudra Center for

their expert advice. They suggested I go to American Gem Institute, but their

cost of verifying is $80.00 and its way too expensive.

Can the learned people here help me, by verbal advice as to how a genuine Red

Coral should: look, feel, sound (I did a drop test on it and it sounds like

glass, did not break though)

I have uploaded a photograph of what I have under the " Photos " section, album

named " Baj " photo called " 20090718_155744Red Coral "

Please look at the photo and advice, Thanks!
