Identify genuine Red Coral

I have come in possession of a 3 inch long Red Coral from a Chinese source. I

want to verify its authenticity and asked Rudra Center for their expert advice.

They suggested I go to American Gem Institute, but their cost of verifying is

$80.00 and its way too expensive.

 

Can the learned people here help me, by verbal advice as to how a genuine Red

Coral should: look, feel, sound (I did a drop test on it and it sounds like

glass, did not break though)
