query on washing away the powers of rudraksha

i have a pending question which i am finally asking after a lot of delay and

thought.

 

Is it alright to wash rudraksha mala in water everyday ?

 

I was told washing the rudraksha every day washes the powers away.

and thus should not be washed instead should only be oiled and covered in

sandalwood paste. Is this true ?

 

I wash my rudraksha mala in tap flowing water every week end or so.

 

kindly advice if it is right or wrong.
