Guest guest
Namaste all, I would like to say a few things about eating beef specifically. I am not a vegitarian so I will not say whether you should be one or the other. First of all, many respected members have already explained that the Rudraksh beads are the eyes/tears of Shiva and as such we offer devotion to Maha Shiva always while wearing these beads. Lord Shiva's vahana and protector is Nandi, the great Bull. Nandi, is the bull which Maha Siva rides and is the gate keeper of Lord Siva and Devi Parvati. Temples venerating Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati display stone images of a seated Nandi, generally facing the main shrine. The bull or cow is sacred for this reason. Secondly, somewhat a more logical reason is that without the cow and all the things it provided us with, we as a people would not have made it very long on this Earth. What are those things, here are a few that you may or may not be familiar with. Milk: as children we are dependent on the nourishment that milks provides us with. We wouldnt have our strong bones and teeth if it were not for milk. Butter: this is not as much a neccisity as milk but still important in our live for food. Ghee or clarified utter: This is an important ingredient of religious ceremonies. We offer ghee in many different ways, from lighting diyas to offer in the sacred fire. Cheese: or also know as paneer, I personally do not care for paneer but it isn't the only cheese made from cows milk. Some of my favorites being cheddar, babybel, colby, ricotta, etc. The list is very long. List of cow cheese here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cow's-milk_cheeses Dung: without this particular product of cows, we wouldn't have any of the farmed crops we have. Many would have died of starvation many centuries ago. In addition to fertilizer, cow dung used as a fuel to cook with, as cheap thermal insulation in houses and provide electricity. If you do not believe, there is a wealth of articles online if you google advatages of cow dung. Lastly, all those acres of farmland our ancestors had long ago were tilled by cows. Cows helped humanity a great deal to bring us were we are, and we slaughter them for food. What an ungrateful set we are. I thought of one more, The wish-fulfilling cow Kamadhenu that came out of the Samudra manthan or " churning of the milk ocean " . The sages decided to take care of it. Its udders produced enough food to feed the whole universe. As long as there are cows, we wont starve. If anything I have said is incorrect, please correct me. Om Namah Shivaya Anil G.
