Dear Alicia,

Sincerely sorry to hear that heart disease has affected many of your family members. It sounds like a genetic thing but as you mentioned, there is hope since you are planning a healthy lifestyle and practice spirituality.

Meditation is a good way to begin with. When we meditate and become aware of the rythym of our breath, and stay with the same rythm as we recite mantras, its a healthy method.

For absolute beginners who are not able to pronounce long mantras, just 'Om' is easy enough to chant for 108 times using a Japa Mala for counting. Listen to your breath while the mantra is recited. Breathe in and out. Perform the same rythym until 108 times is reached.

Its great you're into Ayurveda. Food is important - they say 'what we eat is who we are' or 'we become what we eat'. Hope you're observing an Ayurvedic diet and taking exercise of 30 minutes a day. Once or twice a week, it may be good to try "Cardiac Walks" whereupon you can either walk faster on level ground or go up a slightly hilly area, have a little rest before walking back down. Don't do things too hard. Take them easy. Practice makes perfect. With time, you will reach your goals.

Take good care.

Unfortunately, heart disease has affected many family members, and I am hoping that through a healthier lifestyle, and my spiritual life, that I can overcome this disease. I plan on placing an order today for those items you have suggested. Thank you so much for the time you take with this group. I have learned a lot, and I appreciate all you do.
