Dear Bajkhedawal,

Your review was well understood. Sometimes we feel certain messages should be forwarded to Rudra Centre for attention, hence yours was. Yes Ms Neeta Ji is indeed a most gracious person.

Regarding the oils:

a) The suggestions for selecting oils are mainly based on individual preference for fragrance and skin properties. An example is sandalwood oil being highly conducive to meditation and gentle on most skin types. However its high cost if its a pure essential oil and the strength of most pure oils require it to be mixed with a cold-pressed "carrier oil" (cold-pressed oils do not go rancid) like Pure Olive Oil, Almond Oil (very close to skin properties), Jojoba Oil, etc. Sandalwood is commonly recommended as most people find it's aroma to be appealing and a little goes a long way. There is no altering of the properties of rudrakshas as such when oiled per se. The oil mixture conditions and maintains the rudraksha beads.

b) In 1 or 2 sacred texts, there is mention about oiling the beads. I can't remember the names of the texts but can recall one of them saying that Mustard oil can be used. However, wherever I could avoid it, I have not advised the use of common cooking mustard oil; any type of mustard oil really (for oiling beads or massaging). It is a "fiery oil" said generally to be controlled by Mars. "Black mustard" oil which can be used for lighting oil lamps in pujas for placating Saturn (Shani) is also not recommended. It is not suitable for those with sensitive skin. People with sensitive skin (depending on various skin types) who use mustard oil for oiling their beads may perhaps experience breakouts of sores, scabs, eczema, dermatitis or psoraisis, etc.

c) Rather than altering the magnetic properties of the beads, the oiling process conditions and maintains the beads inside and outside. The magnetic and biomedical properties work with the psyche of the wearer instead.
