Namaste Risiraja,

 

Panchmukhi malas are normally strung in 108 + 1 rudraksha beads in a

mala. The extra '109th' bead is called meru or sumeru bead. A mala of

108 or 54 beads are for counting of mantras then put back on the altar.

Its fine to wear the mala if you wish.
