Dear Vishal,

Hope you won't mind, but I would like to advise you not to read Hindi or other books about rudraksha EXCEPT for 2 special books that contain expert information :

Rudraksa by Suhas Rai

The book Rudraksa by Suhas Rai is currently out of stock. You can check with Rudra Centre when they will get new stocks again:

Enquire here: /sendEnquiry.php

a) The head and tail in rudraksha that you've been reading was referring to the mouth part and tail part of the bead. This rudraksha picture shows the mouth part :

The other side of this rudraksha is called the tail part. Scriptures such as the Srimad Devi Bhagavatam recommend that rudraksha should be strung with mouth and mouth part facing each other, and tail and tail facing each other on a mala.

b) Its not true that people belonging to Makar Rashi should not wear Panchmukhi rudraksha. Its also untrue that every rashi recommended and banned rudraksha were listed in a table. This is sheer superstition.

c) Yes there are generally 4 types of colors used for describing rudraksha but they are loose terms because rudraksha comes in many different hues or shades within those 4 types of colors (White, Yellow, Red and Black). We should only follow scriptures about what each rudraksha mukhi has in powers. Scriptures do not mention that colors are used for determining powers of rudraksha.

d) Nepal beads range from dark brown to beige or red, light red/brown, etc. Java beads are lighter in color as they grow on different soil. Black rudraksha are usually very old rudraksha that's been kept for many decades. New fresh "black" beads are normally rudrakshas that have been washed, dried and oiled, and they are actually darkest brown or darkest red/brown. Yes they are available. White rudraksha is available too but rare.

e) I do not know what the author of the Hindi book you are reading is referring to when he says "'Ishaan Mantra'. As far as I know, Ishan is one of the 8 Dikpals who are guardians of the 8 cardinal directions. The 8 Dikpals are Indra, Varun, Yama, Kuber, Agni, Vayu, Niriti and Ishan.

I have seen on your websites photos of rudraksha. Nepal beads look red and Java beads look yellow. Is this the same thing they are talking about? What about white and black rudraksha?
