Guest guest
Namaste Subramanian, a) Mahamantras such as Maharityunjaya Mantra is helpful for undoing effects of past negative karma. It can be used by anyone of any religious background (God does not have discrimmination). To get better effects in mantra chanting, after the morning bath and putting on fresh clothes, go to the puja room, light incense and begin reciting the mantra. Do the first segment of the mantra sadhana (or "Mantra Yoga") for 45 days, take a rest and resume for another 45 days. Others may tell you 21, 27, 54 or more days, etc. -- Its up to you to follow their method or not. In this message, I'm suggesting a total period of 90 days' discipline. You need to meditate on whether you will be able to upkeep this discipline. Serious devotees undertake mantra chanting, yoga or meditation during early morning approximately 2 hours before sunrise. This period of the day is called "Brahma Muhurta" when its most auspicious. Indeed you are right about there not being any time constraints when one chants the name of god, only the gods don't hear us as quickly as during the Hour of Muhurta. It is believed that the veil between heaven and earth is at its thinnest during Brahma Muhurta too. b) Would like to suggest these books to you" /dispProduct.php?prodId=237 Remedies through Mantras /dispProduct.php?prodId=315 Meditation and Mantras by Swami Vishnu Devananda This book contains: Why Meditate, japa meditation (theory, practice), obstacle to meditation, experiences in meditation, etc /dispProduct.php?prodId=427 Also have a look at: Sanskrit Mantras and Spiritual Power A Selection of Works by Thomas Ashley-Farrand(Namadeva) http://www.sanskritmantra.com/
