Gayatri mantra purifies our past karmas, improves intelligence & health 2. 25% of the japa goes to the account of our Pitris (means all fore-fathers & fore-mothers on both father's & mother's sides) 3. Without initiation, one should not recite the first line `Om Bhur Bhubah Swah' 4. There are misconcept that Gayatri mantra cannot be recited by ladies. It is a completely wrong idea. In olden days, hindu ladies were also used to wear sacred thread and used to get initiated in Gayatri mantra. Then, the sacred thread were worn by all - irrespective of cast.
