Guest guest
In Calcutta while undergoing a bad time, I had Sudarshana Homa performed in Lord Guruvayur's temple in South Calcutta. This beautiful temple was constructed more than 25 year ago modelled on the lines of the famous Lord Guruvayurappan's temple in Kerala. In almost all temples in Kerala, tantra puja is done and hence a lot of power gets infused in the deity in a very short time, unlike in Tamil Nadu where puja is done in a traditional manner (vedic puja) i.e. chanting of mantras and slokas audibly without closing the doors of the sanctum sanctorum. In tantra puja, the doors of the sanctum sanctorum remain closed for the duration of the puja. When the Sudarshana Homa was performed in the Tantra way, no mantra or sloka was audible. Probably the Namboodiri chanted it inaudibly. Mudras are very important in Tantra puja and I could see the priest doing a lot of mudras during the Sudarshana Homa. Finally, I would like to state that Sudarshana Homa, if properly done, is really very helpful to ease our burden. Excellent for getting rid of the evils of black magic and the evil eye. Atleast this has been my personal experience. It cost me Rs.1,001/- and it took a little over an hour to perform the Sudarshana Homa at the temple premises in the year 2002.
