As per the traditional subtle anatomy the fingers represent Various planets Various Gunas such as Satwa, Rajo, Tamo Gunas And Pancha bhootas, .Such as Pridhvi, vayU, Akash. Agni and water. Tridoshas can be balanced such as Vata, pitta and Kapha with various mudras Chin Mudra is a great adjunct for meditation and for those who wear Rudrakshas. One can look at the Picture of Sri Adi Shankara, and get further information from Google search. The Thumb represents Paramathma The index finger represents Jeevatma. The Middle, ring and Little fingers represents Satwa, Rajo and Tamo Gunas. These Three fingers are always associated and touch the Index Finger.The Soul is always under the influence of the three gunas. The purpose of chinumudra is To be free from the 3 Gunas. (Guna traya Ateetah) Another purpose ---Jeevatma to be in association with Paramatma. The practice is simple .No one will notice it. Results tranquility and better meditation. The thumb represents the paramatma.(Jeevo Angusta matrena) All that is necessary is to touch the index finger to the thumb and keep the rest of the 3 fingers flexed.
