Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all

-

Vighna Haro Deva

Lord Ganesh's birth, characteristics and powers are nothing short of an encyclopaedia in spiritual maturity - a power needed by all of us.

The story is incomparable to any other birth in history where...... " Ganesh is created from the dust of his mother's body (Goddess Parvati).

Why would a father (the Lord of the Universe no less) kill his own son?  For ingnorance and arrogance?  Why couldn't have Lord Shiva re-attached Ganesh's original head?

Enchanting as the story may be, however the spiritual significance is more benefical:

Residing in a body made of five elements, we souls (ATMA), children of the Supreme Being (PARAM-ATMA), the Incorporeal God Shiva, forgot our true parents, of the soul and began to associate with the body and physical world.

So God serves of this false head of ego and gives us a new spiritual birth.

The elephant's head symbolises a broad and wise intellect attainted through the accurate understanding of Divine knowledge given by God, which helps us in maintaining stability when confronted with all adverse situations.

Ganesh also symbolises these powers:

Power to Discriminate:

The elephant truck can do anything from uprooting trees to picking up a needle.  Similarly, a person aspiring to attain perfection, can through Rajyog meditation develope the power to uproot deep-rooted negative traits.

The elephant's tiny but sharp eyes can see the smallest of good qualities within anybody.  Similarly a spiritually wise person only sees greatness in simple things.

Power to Listen:

Elephant's huge ears are most sensitive, a single ant caught in its ear can trouble it to death.  We too need to know what to hear, imbibe, and what to be indifferent to.

Power to Accommodate and Merge:

The elephant's large stomach signifies the art of not spreading gossip, negativity, secrets etc - the ability to BUILD BRIDGES AND NOT WALLS.

GANA - in Kannada means, the five sense organs of a human soul (eyes, ears, nose, mouth and skin)

PATI - means the ruler of the sense organs, that is the SOUL.

So GANA-PATI symbolises being in soul conscious stage.

As we invoke him on Ganesh Chaturthi, lets also experience the virtues he stands for and welcome home true success!
