Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta. For past 2 to 3 days continuosuly I have been getting stroing remeberance and vibrations of this divine Bhajan right from when I woke up in the morning and it was not going away. So today I sat down to pray to Appaji to mercifully grant this seva opportunity. Surrendering at His Lotus feet in seva and with pranams to HH Sri Swamiji and Sadgurudeva, here is word-to-word translation of the bhajan " AandOlaye Raajaeswareem " composed and sung by Sri Swamiji during from 2007 navaraatri festival. The dattapeetham web link for this Bhajan is here: http://www.dattapeetham.com/india/festivals/2007/navaratri2007/oct13/oct13.html ========== AandOlaye Raajaeswareem ---------------- Context of the Bhajan: -------------------- During Navaraatri worship, while we do the Cradle/swing Seva to the Godess, we keep the deity idol in a cradle/swing and gently swing it to and fro as if we are making the Godess go to sleep! This is called " Paryanka =Bed seva " . Word to Word translation: ------------------------ PALLAVI: ----------- Aandolaye = Let us Swing/cradle (to and fro) Rajeswareem = Godess Rajeswari Devi [Rajeswari form is the ultimate Cosmic energy personified, which is the unified energy of all gods and godesses that we can think of including Brahma, VishNu and Siva along with Godesses Saraswati, Lakshmi and Paarvati. She is the form worshipped through Srichakra/Srividya upaasanaa. The mother godess worshipped in this form in Sriuvidya is in essence inded the universe itself] Sagathaangeem = Sangatha + Angeem= the one who is having Angeem = bodilyparts (that are) Sangatha = that have gone on to / residing on (Sam= much; gatha=gone in to; Sam+Gatah = sangatha) [viz. sitting on] Hindolika = a decorative Swing; Also, Music tune-Raaga- 'Hindola' (morning melody that has to and fro movement) i.e. Let us offer the Swing seva by moving to and fro, to godess Rajeswari, who is sitting on the decorative Swing (OR) who resides in the Raaga Hindola; who is much pleased by singing Raaga Hindola; who is well understood and known by the wise who sing and realize raaga Hindola's essence. ----==0==---- Charanam - 2 -------------- (The one who made) Sri Sankaro = lord Sri sankara (as) Paryankikaa = her plank/bed/cot on which she is residing [This is symbolic and has deep inner yogic meanings which are very difficult to understand....typically we see Lord Siva/Sankara as the bed or cot or the plank on which she rests-- for Rajeswari Devi in paintings and pictures that we generally see. ****************************************************** Significance of Lord Siva being the cot for Rajeswari in Srividya ******************************************************* Since my knowledge is very limited, I cut and paste a paragraph directly copied from this weblink for the significance and meaning of Siva being the cot for godess Rajeswari: http://ssubbanna.sulekha.com/blog/post/2008/03/sri-muthuswami-dikshitar-and-sri-\ vidya-7-of-7-1.htm Sri Muthuswami Dikshitar Kritis on Navaavarana : " The line “Shivaakaara Manchasthita Shivakaameshaankasthaa†ordinarily means that the goddess is sitting on the cot in embrace of shiva. But, in Sri Vidya, the imagery of the cot on which the mother goddess rests has a symbolic significance. The Mother Goddess is imagined to be seated at the Bindu (in her mansion) on a cot (mancha). The four corners of the Bhupura represent the four legs of the cot. The four legs are the four principles of the phenomenal world: emanation (shristi Brahma); preservation (sthithi Vishnu); dissolution (upasamhara Rudra); and withdrawal of the entire creation into a very subtle form (Ishvara). The plank (phalakha), which rests on the four legs of the cot is Shiva; he represents the principle of reception, retention of the withdrawn phenomena. Such dichotomy of existence is preserved (anugraha) until the time for re-emanation arrives. This principle is Sadashiva tattva. The Mother Goddess rests on this plank, the principle, of Shiva. In Tantra, the female is the predominant aspect and the male is subordinate to her. The plank of the cot is male; and the female rests on that. The cot is inert, and the Devi is dynamic. Yet, the male provides the female a field to function; and the two cannot be separated. Sri Chakra demonstrates this principle. " ] *************************************************** [Vedaassame = vedaah+same] Vwdaah = the Vedas (are considered) same = equal to [Daamaavali=daama+ aavali] aavali= series of damaa= strings/legs (of the cot on which Rajeswari is sitting) i.e.- The four Vedas are considered to be the 4 legs of the plank/cot on which Rajeswari is sitting. Yasyaah = she who has sadaa = always [devaanganaa = deva+angana] deva=divine anganaa = ladies i.e. feminine angels, godesses (as her) [daasiigaNaa = daasii+gaNa] daasii = feminine servant(associate) gaNa = in multitude, many in number (I pray to) taam = such godess sankariim = sankari (who has name sankari; sankara here in this Srividya picture represents teh PURUSHA tattva and godess Rajeswari as Stritattva- thus Sankara is the unified form of Brahma, Vishnu and Siva as moola purusha aspect of the universe....and hence the godess as that sankara's wife in feminine form is Saankari) i.e.- She who has many godesses as her servants! I always pray to such godess Sankari Charanam - 2 -------------- Sivae = Oh! the one who is kind, friendly, gracious, or auspicious ! [note that here we do not want to interpret meaning of word 'Sive'as consort of Siva, because Rajeswari is even beyond trinity and is transcendental super ultimate cosmic energy of the entire universe....thus this form does not have limitations of qualities or nature or specific form like Siva etc. It has all forms of trinity and beyond.] Pujayaa = during the worships Yogairapi=yogaihi + api api = and yogaihi = during yoga practices Tvam = you noonam = for sure sraamitaa = toiled, worked hard (to uplift) mae (word 'mae' in Sanskrit) = me (word 'me' in English) (who is) visramsita = v+sramsita = caused to be loosened, verymuch fallen (srams = falling, loosen up,give up etc.) (due to) vyathe = smitten, stricken by, (i.e. the blow of) ajnaana = ignorance, avidya, lack of knowledge or wisdome (of) i.e.- during all the worships and yoga practices that we offer to thee you toiled hard to uplift me who is fallen by the blow of ignorance We can also say in a better way that : You loosened and released me from the blows of ignorance, pleased with the practices of yoga and worship that I performed [tasmaadume = tasmaath + ume!] Tasmaath = hence Ume! = Oh! godess named Uma! (i.e. Paarvati, viz. feminine part of the cosmic energy of the universe) Visraamyathaam = (please) take lot of rest Charanam - 3 -------------- (Please) Kuru = make mae = my maanasam = mind, heart (which is) prollaasitham = pra + ullaasitam = immensly + overjoyed puujayaa = by performing the worship (of) tvat = yours, Dolaam = as your swing/cradle (i.e. please fill my heart) kuru = make maam = me sarvadaa = always dhanyam = blessed (also wholesome/complete,lucky ) tvam = you are khalu = indeed sachchidaananda = sat+chit+aananda = Truth-knowledge and bliss i.e - Please make my mind, which is immensely overjoayed by worshipping you, as your swing (and reside in it). Please make me always wholesome/complete and blessed. You are indeed the fountain of truth-knowledge and bliss (and hence you bestow the same to your devotees!) ----------SRI GURU DATTA---------- Raveendra Boggaram
