Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta Thanks for the feedback on my question on Sri Datta Darshanam pages 140-170. Can we conclude now that: when understanding Sri Datta-tattva and Sri Swamiji teaching, the subject of Rajasikas (passion in all its forms) is of paramount importance. One needs to destroy or exterminate that aspect of the ego in order to receive the highest knowledge from the guru of the gurus. Sri Guru Datta Win. Guest guest
Sree Guru Datta, Continuing discussion on TriGunas… I could find the following sayings of Sri Swamiji: // Pujya Sri Swamiji's Dattatreya Jayanti Message, Mysore Ashrama, 12th December 2008: . " If you practice Satvik qualities, there is no complication with Sadguru at all. If you practice Rajasik and Tamasik qualities, how can you befriend Swamiji? You TALK of Satvik Guna, but behave like Rajo or Tamo guna (mood fluctuations). Two minutes you are good with your family, friends, government etc. Next moment you are angry with everyone. This is Rajoguna. Tamoguna is always hatred. No satisfaction with wife, husband, children or Sadguru also. It is often very difficult to practice pure Satvik temperament. At least practice Rajasik temperament. Some day you will be promoted to Satvik temperament. " .. Pujya Sri Swamiji's Message on Guru Purnima, 16-Jul-2000: .. We should run towards spirituality. Spirituality will not come to you. We have three types of qualities, Satva, Rajo and Tamo Gunas. If you have Satva Guna, the Guru will come to you. If you have Rajo Guna you have to go the Guru. The Tamo Guna people do not believe in God. The Rajo Guna people should be careful. By controlling our emotions we have to surrender to our Sadguru step by step and in a slow manner. .. Pujya Sri Swamiji's Discourse, Dattatreya Jayanti, Mysore, India, 12-Dec-2008: .. Never practice Tamasic tendencies or Rakshasa Gunas (qualities of demons). Rajo Guna is excusable but Demonic qualities (Tamo guna) are not. Even while you are having Rajo Guna, your thought must be Satvik. Your file will be taken up by Sadguru for reformation. You will be gradually uplifted to Satva Guna. .. // Your question is digging my thoughts on Three Gunas. Yes, You are correct. “One needs to destroy the egoâ€. Isn’t there ‘ego’ in SatvaGuna? (Or) Egoistic character is only Rajasic and Tamasic? Satvikas doesn’t know/have ego? So the question is what is ‘ego’? With my limited knowledge I can say that the cause of ego is ‘I’ (Mine, Myself, I am etc., are forms of ego). Does it mean that I myself is ‘ego’. No. The thought within me which is responsible for ‘I’ nature is ‘ego’. When you conquer the ‘I’ nature within you, you can be free from TriGunas. I will have to accept that it is very difficult for me even to think of that state of mind. So Satvikas also have ‘Ego’(‘I’ nature), but the way it is exhibited is different. Once you enter Satvik community, you can slowly attain ‘free from TriGunas’ stage. Being Rajasic/Tamasic can never help.
