What is a Jyotish or Ayurvedic Quality Gemstone?

Jyotish is the sanskrit name for vedic astrology, meaning " science of

light " . Ayurveda is the Indian system of medicine meaning " science of

life " . For gems to be capable of transmitting cosmic planetary rays

that may enhance physical, emotional, or spiritual health or attract

positive influences toward a person, they must first of all be

natural. This means they are created by tectonic pressure within the

earth over time periods up to millions of years. Synthetic gems are

created in a laboratory within a matter of days to weeks and do not

have the capability to absorb, reflect or transmit cosmic radiation.

They are not effective for any type of healing whatsoever.

Gems also transmit cosmic colors that are in turn absorbed by the

chakra centers in the ethereal body and therefore they must be of

good quality in clarity. Otherwise there may be some disturbance in

the transmission of these rays that would alter the effect and

sometimes even create an undesirable effect. Therefore we choose gems

that are from " eye-clean " , meaning a minimum of inclusions within the

stone, to flawless, meaning no imperfections are visible to the eye

at all.

An expert planetary gemologist knows what types of inclusions are

permissible in a jyotish gemstone and which alter the cosmic

radiation emanating from the gemstone. The more flawless a gem, and

the greater saturation of color throughout, the greater its value.

This amounts to the rarity and world supply of any given gemstone.

Gems must not be heat-treated to enhance color or clarity, nor

irradiated or treated in any way to improve their appearance. It is a

fact that 98% of all sapphires and rubies are heat-treated, as well

as certain other stones, and many other stones are treated in some

way, such as irradiation, to improve their appearance. In some cases

heat-treated gems, such as rubies or blue sapphires, may still be

very expensive as in the jewelry trade it is accepted and does not

reduce the value. For jyotish or ayurvedic usage this nullifies their

inherent potencies and effectively " kills " the gemstone.
