Jaya Guru Datta

Dear Datta family,

This rarely chanted but powerful prayer that removes all sins by the mere

remembrance each day of the Nine Nathas, according to Sri Swamiji's

statement, has been uploaded at

http://www.dycusa.org/eresources/prayers/NavanathaDattaStotram/NavanathaDattaSto\

tram.asp

with script in different languages and audio lesson. Here is its explanation.

Sri Swamiji has said that every Datta devotee should make it a point to visit

all these nine pilgrimage centers especially built by Sri Swamiji with great

effort just for our spiritual benefit.

Meaning of the Navanatha Datta StÅtram

The prayer lists the location in India of the nine temples built by Sri Swamiji

in honor of the nine Datta Nathas (previous incarnations of Lord Dattatreya in

the Natha tradition). Each of the nine seed syllables from Sri Swamiji’s name

represents each one of them as follows:

“Ga  -   na  -  pa  -  ti  -  Sa  -  cci  -  da  -  nan -

daâ€

1.    In New Delhi       –      gam – Datta –Matsyēndranath

2.    In Nellore  –                nam – Datta

–GÅrakhnath

3.    In Bhimavaram –         pam – Datta –Jalandharanath

4.    In Kadapa  –                tim   – Datta

–Kaneephanath

5.    In Kaikaluru       –      sam –  Datta –Carpatunath

6.    In Srikakulam     –      cim  –  Datta –Nagēsanath

7.    In Kamareddi      –      daam – Datta –Bhartareenath

8.    In Eluru               –      nam – Datta

–Rēvananath

9.    In Guntur            –      dam – Datta

–Gahaneenath

I prostrate to Sage Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda who has consecrated these nine

Navanatha temples. Sri Swamiji Himself is the combined embodiment of all nine

Datta Nathas. He blesses me bountifully here and in the hereafter when I

meditate upon Him.

Sri Guru Datta
