Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Dear Ones, In the coming days, along with our beloved Sadguru, we will be celebrating Jayalaxshmi Mata Aradhane. Meditating on the sweet and divine love between Sri Swamiji and His beloved mother has much to offer us. During His recent visit to Canada, Sri Swamiji touched the hearts of thousands across the globe (thanks to the wonderful webcast provided by the Canadian devotees) when He spoke about how when he thought of Jayalakshmi Mata, he could only remember her singing. What a beautiful memory He shared with us which, in its recollection, brought happiness to those listening. Through the years, Sri Swamiji has reminded His devotees repeatedly " Don't worry, be happy. " And yet we continue to miss the power of this message each time we sit down and worry, think negative thoughts or dwell on painful experiences of the past. Our minds don't know the difference between the past and the present, and when we do focus our thoughts on the negative, we generate unhappiness and stress in our bodies, releasing the chemicals into our system that help create disease and aging. The wonderful teachings of our Sadguru and the Veds constantly reinforce that our happiness comes from within, that it is possible to find lasting happiness and peace in this lifetime if we learn to control our senses and our minds. But mustn't we first learn to understand and accept that teaching and learn how to discover and feel within our own bodies how that is possible before we are ready for the great joy of knowing Brahman? Sri Swamiji gives us a great example of how to do this with His sweet memory of Jayalaxshmi. Certainly, as we read Sri Swamiji's biography, we learn that like all families, our Sadguru's family had its moments of anger and strife. But yet, Sri Swamiji chooses to remember His mother singing and the sweetness and joy and safety and love that that brought Him as a child, creating in His present moment that same love and happiness and blessedly sharing it with us. All we have is the present moment, but we too frequently fill that present moment with negative thinking or painful memories. We miss that most of the time, if we take the time to stop and realize where we are, that in the present moment we are safe from the pains and difficulties of the past and the dangers of the present, that they are nothing but a dream gone by or an imagined fear. We no longer need to recreate those negative emotions that make us ill and keep us from our natural legacy of happiness that our Sadguru wishes to have. In every waking moment, we have a choice to think a happy thought, or remember a happy memory, conditioning our bodies to begin to release and enjoy the chemicals and feelings of happiness. If we can tune into those feelings of peace or happiness that our sweet memories can bring us in the present moment perhaps we can learn that valuable lesson that Sri Swamiji keeps telling us, " Don't worry, be Happy! " and begin to truly understand that our happiness comes from within and not from the things/people around us in the present moment in which we are living. It is always our choice. How blessed we all our to have such a lesson from our Sadguru and the beautiful singing of Jayalakshmi Mata! Sri Guru Datta, Ishwari
