Sir, your explanation is very clear and lucid indeed. The man who has bound himself, wrongly as it were, may not be able to undo those knots on his own. He may need external help. In the spiritual sense, this external help would be the Guru. We are fortunate that the Guru in our case is the Purna Avatar Himself! But I guess the Guru will also come forward to help only if we put some efforts to release ourselves - is this correct? I would also think there is a lot of trial and error for us to know whether we are putting the right amount of effort. But to me, this is the most difficult part, as we are immersed in our daily activities inlcuding what we call "Sai activities" - to realise whether our activties are

helping us to liberate ourselves or they are further binding us!! I dont know if it is correct, but is seems so much easier to say "Anyatha Sharanam Naasthi, Swami, Twameva Sharanam Mama" [swami, You are my only refuge, please help me!] and let Him work out my knots and bonds. Sai Ram.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Loving SAI RAMs. I am pleasantly surprised at a mail that I have received in my mail box from another member. After reading my posting no.18 on the subject referred to above, this member has asked me to elaborate as to "who can be considered as liberated". Well, majority of us have only a vague idea of what "libearation" means. Let me put it this way. Bondages are created upon our personality and life by none other than ourselves. These bondages, innumerable in their number, are produced by the subtle chords of our own attachments with things. Our deluded individual ego feels fulfilled only through these world-of-objects. Thus , as a body, it gets attached to the world of its sense-objects; as a mind it lives enslaved to the world of emotions; and as an intellect, it gets bound with its own

ideas. Suppose an individual sitting in a room manages to tie himself with his own idle hands tightly to some fixture in the room, certainly, in a short time, he will discover himself to be bound and chained to that room. His liberty to walk freely out of the room becomes curtailed because of the chords with which he has tied himself to the fixtures in the room. The fixtures by themselves have no power to enslave him, nor can the fixture bind him to itself. He , of his own accord, has tied himself to the fixtures in that room, movable and immovable, and thereafter he feels himself bound within the four walls of his own room!

Similarly, the worlds of objects, of emotions and of ideas, can not by themselves bind the Supreme, but the ego stupidly gets itself bound through cords of attachments with the world-of-objects, and thus comes to feel bound and shackled. With a view to liberate himself from the room, the bound person has to cut asunder all cords that bind him to the fixtures. In the same way, the ego can liberate itself only when it becomes entirely 'devoid of aall attachments' (Gatasangah) , as the Bhagavad Gita calls it. Thus one becomes liberated when one gets oneself beyond all attachments. In other words, if the sword of detachment is weilded correctly and strongly and thereby one can conquer all attachments, he becomes liberated. One is ever liberated if he is not bound by attachments. Trust this clarifies the member1s doubts.

SAI RAM Giridharji,

I have little hesistation in sharing your views. True, we need a Guru in our Spiritual Path. That Guru will walk into our life provided we are clear about our goal and we are prepared to take the initial' leap' on our own. So long we do any activity in a spirit of detachment, without selfish motives and with a view to help somebody, we can be said to be in the right path and Guru`s grace will flow in in right measures. And once we surrender to the Guru totally, by his grace Divine Grace will automatically be showered on us. The knots are made of desires, ignorance, ego ,jealousy, anger, pride etc. etc. The bond is the bond of Samsara--repeated births and deaths.
