Pandits across North India regard April 20 – the day of the Abhiash

wedding – as the most auspicious day of the year. The day coincides

with Akshaya Tritiya according to the Hindu calendar and is

celebrated because Goddess Durga negates bad influences on this day.

On this day, brides wear the colours gold and white rather than the

traditional choice of red or maroon, to invoke the blessings of the

goddess. The goddess has a particular fondness for gold. Which is why

everything worn on this day is accentuated with zari, zardosi and

ornaments of pure gold. Aishwarya, incidentally, is wearing gold.

Akshaya Tritiya is also celebrated as the day when Laxmi, the goddess

of wealth and prosperity, is invited into the home. " The day is

considered auspicious for buying long term assets like gold, silver,

diamonds, other precious stones, and real estate. Legend has it that

any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya will

continue to grow and bring prosperity, " says citybased jeweller,

Neeraj Bhan. Srujana Reddy, a devotee of Goddess Laxmi, shares, " No

matter how small the amount is, I make it a point to buy some gold on

the auspicious day. "

Astrologer J Shastri explains the significance, " Akshaya Tritiya is

the day when all malefic influences are negated. Anyone can get

married on this day. There is no need to seek a muhurat. Especially

amongst North Indians, the day is of utmost significance. April 20 is

also a day when the blessings of Jupiter, even though it is in

retrograde, and Venus are in abundance with both the Sun and the Moon

exalted. "

Saxena also brushes off any particular significance of the mangal

dosha that some hint mars Aishwarya's charts. " The influence of the

pujas she has done are greatly beneficial and now that she has

crossed 30, the effect of being a manglik is considerably reduced.

Add to it the marriage being performed on this day, and you can be

assured only good can come of it. "

This is one of the most auspicious days according to the Hindu

calendar. So this day is considered auspicious for starting new

ventures and making new purchases.

beneficial for blessings of prosperity all year round.

> Visit Mahalaxmiji mandir, and 4 coins should be thrown in all 4

directions, this will open doors to wealth.

> Chanting Anang mantra " Om Hloum Hloom Anangaay Phat " makes one

physically fit and reduces impotency problems.

> Married women wear a red thread with vermillion around their necks

and invoke good wishes in a Shiv mandir for longevity of their

husbands. Unmarried ones put it on the feet of Lord Shiva to get the

husband they wish for.

> Visit Shiv mandir with neem leaves and after offering to Shiva put

under the pillow of a sick person, the person will recover from his

illness and evil eyes.
