Namaste Ritu, one interpretation for Vedic Knot is :

 

Gathbandhan (Sacred Union of two souls): A knot in the sacred cloth

of bride and bridegroom is tied and some rice may be kept in that

knot by priest as a sign of prosperity and sacredness.

 

Another interpretation is used by Vaastu practitioners but I don't

know the details.

 

For stringing malas, its a Simple Knot.
