Guest guest
Sri Maha Ganapataye Namaha, Sri Saraswathye Namaha, Sri Pada Vallabha Narasimha Saraswathi, Sri Guru Dattatreyaya Namaha! The culmination of Shiva Bhakthi is Muruga Bhakthi. Shiva represents the Panchaakshari tattva (5 sense organs) and Muruga represents the combination of the 5 sense organs with their object (Prakrithi), or the shadakshari tattva (6, representing the parama tattva combining the 5 sense organs and the 6th, the mind) in which both the Nirguna (Shiva) and the Saguna (Parvathi) merge into One, as Subramanya. This is Karthika masam (the month of Karthikeya) and is celebrated by the worship of Lord Shiva, who is the origin/source of Karthikeya. Muruga was born from the influence of Kama deva on Shiva, during his tapas. Shiva's energies, in the form of a red flame, were deposited by Agni in the Ganga (Jnana), and led to the birth of Karthikeya, for the benefit of the world (Loka-Kalyana). Karthikeya, as Angaraka, is the 'reddish one' (Mars). Nirguna means one who is without attributes (Gunas), while Saguna means the 'good' attribute (Nature or Prakriti). It is due to the Prakrithi-Purushula Samyogam (union/merger) that Subramanya was born. Subramanya means the 'Good Brahmana' - or the Su-Brahmanya (one who is a knower of Brahman) who is full (purna) of the mode of Sattva (Su, or That which is Good). He is thus one who is conducive to spiritual realization, and is thus associated with the Guru Tattva. He is the culmination of Sattvic energy. The special significance of Muruga (Subramanya) is that he is not only an imparter of knowledge (Jnana), but He IS the fruit of the knowledge that is so imparted ( " Phalam nee Appa! Jnana Phalam nee Appa! " ). He is the only one who imparts such knowledge directly (immediately and quickly), without any intermediate steps. While Vishnu tattva is through nishkamya-karma, Muruga tattva is steeped in Jnana (the " ihapara sadhana " ) that arises from Mounam (Silence). Mounam is both the means and the end (mental tranquility, in which all vasanas are silenced instantly). In other words, Muruga's tattvam gives direct realization of the Truth without any intermediate steps. The knowledge given by Muruga is of a special kind, in that it is acquired without arduous efforts to acquire it, and it is acquired speedily. It is revealed directly as the most immediate knowledge, not like second-hand (as in book knowledge). Today is not only Mangala varam (Tuesday) but the 24th. Mangala is synonymous with the Lord of War (i.e., Karthikeya is the Commander in Chief of the devata armies, where devata is directly translated as 'the shining ones') in astrology; in this regard, he is also seen as the leader of Humanity. Mangalam ( " Mangalam pranamaamyaham! " ) itself means 'auspicious' or the one who grants the devas (satva-guna) victory in the war against rakshasatvam (tamo-guna) by virtue of his special shakthi (Shakthi Vel), which pierces the knot of ignorance in Man, such that the evil qualities are absorbed by Muruga into himself, and the good qualities remain behind as Sattva, as evidenced by his victory over Surapadman. The end result is the Subrahmanya (Su-Brahmanya). Numerologically the significance of 24 is that 2+4 is 6. The number 6 is associated with karthikeya, as He was born with 6 heads (Shanmukha, representing the Shadakshari tattva), and took the form of the 6 kumaras to be raised separately by the krithikas. Later, these 6 tattvas merged into One due to the grace of His mother, Parvathi (Prakrithi). Subramanya therefore represents the culmination of Man's latent spiritual potential. In astronomy, the Krithikas are none other than the Pleaideas star cluster, including the Pole Star. These stars are closely related to the Sapta-rishis. He is Sanat-Kumara (the eternal youth) associated with the planet Venus. He is the Sage who later takes birth as Krishna's son in the Mahabharata. His vehicle, vahana, is the peacock, representing the vanity/pride of the ahamkara (ego) - demonstrating both his use of the Ahamkara (ego) as a tool/means for self-realization, as well as His mastery over the ego. Shiva tattva represents the complete eradication of the ego; while Muruga tattva is the use of the ego as the very means, enabling the direct realization of the True Self. Vel! Vel! Jnana Vel!
